Right now, the age for concent in my state (concent to have sex) is 13. I think thats a bit too low, wouldn't you agree? What do you think the age should be?
well, here its 16 which i think on average is about right. of course it actually depends on individuals, but since the age of consent has to apply to everyone, and also acts as protection to kids, i think 16 is a good age in terms of leaning towards the side of caution. of course i know people might disagree, but like i said it depends on individuals, and also the culture they're raised in.
I think it's a bit sick if people actually care about those rules... Just do it when you feel like it... I said I don't care because I don't expect people to actually follow those rules
Yea, there is a rule here too. If you have sex with a minor, you become a sex offender. Automatically people think your a child molester. Not that its my problem, but lots of messed up kids with stupid parents are everybodys problem.
I'm careful to be sure about how old the guys are that I have sex with. Most of them are classmates but there have been a couple of times that I didn't really know the guy (and vice versa) because they wern't from town. I make sure they know how old I am because if they are over 18 and anyone finds out and says anything, they'll be in trouble, even if I'm the one that started everything. I know that even if I say I was the aggressor, he'll still get in trouble. I don't know what age is right, I think it depends on both people.
Good God, what state do you live in? Thirteen has got to be the lowest age of consent in the entire U.S. In most states, the age of consent is between 16 and 18. In Vermont, where I live, it's 16. -- Skeeter
I think it's silly to have an age of consent. It really depends on the individual, and the individual's values. If a 16-year old is old enough, but has parents who are against teenage sex, the age of consent makes no difference. On the other hand, if there's a fifteen year-old who feels emotionally mature enough to have sex, the age of consent is restricting. Let's say the age of consent is 16. There are millions of 16-year-olds who are (in my opinion) nowhere near old enough emotionally to be sexually active. On the other hand, I know 15-year-olds who are, but can't legally do it.
The age of consent should be that age at which one is willing and able to accept the responsibility for the outcome of sexual activity. Not merely possible pregnancy or STDs, but emotional fallout, reputation, disappointments, love, jealousy, extasy, and others. Obvoiusly, this age will vary from individual to individual. As a society, we would be well served if we taught our children to be ready to accept this responsibility by the time they reached sexual maturity. Sadly, we do not. Thus, even many "legal" adults aren't prepared for what sexual activity might bring them, and suffer as a result, or worse, cause suffering. Ah, wouldn't it be nice to live in a sex positive emotionally healthy society?
That's horrible! But in Arkansas it's 17 and in Missouri it's 16! And I think that's way much better than 13!
I think it's fine here in the UK. 16 is pretty fair, at least you've had time to think about it then (or not as the case of teenage pregnancy may show)
Belgium has like all bureaucratic lands a law that doesn't work: When you're younger than 18, you may have sex with somebody of 14 or older. When you're older than 18, you may have sex with somebody of 16 or older. A friend of me was 17 when he met his girlfriend, and she was 14. The first year they were together, they had legal sex, but when he turned 18, it became illegal. The father of the girl went to the police and now my friend waits for his trial. This is wrong. The guy wouldn't hurt a fly. It's possible that he'll be thrown in jail for 4 years, just for loving somebody, it makes me sick. Love, Tommy
Just said that. But I agree wholeheartedly, especially with the last statement. We're so uptight about sex, as a society. Pity.
in england its 16 which is a good guide line, but when i'm ready to have sex i'll have it. there shouldn't be a restriction but children should be properly informed about sex and STD's etc. you tell a 12 year old not to have sex they'll get curious and have sex. better to control it than to try to stop it.
Gee ya think thats a bit low.. what state do you live in cause i dont think that could possible be.. 13..what is the world coming too, but again dont know how accurate that is..
