I'm very interested in becoming a midwife, lactation consultant, or something in that area, but I don't even know where to start looking. I want to work with herbs not drugs. Where can I go to learn about this? Any suggestions are appreciated.
    Thanks so much

I don't know where you are willing to relocate, but in Summertown TN, there is a great midwife workshop in a community. www.midwiferyworkshops.org or

www.thefarmcommunity.com is where they are located. I am leaving to The Farm next week in to do a environmental apprentiship program for a month with the Eco Village. I visited The Farm a few months ago and took a tour of their mid wife unit, the lead teacher is Ina May Gaskins, she has written many books. You should check it out. A little bit of history about the farm- it was started in the 70's by Steven Gaskin-the night class teacher in San Fran. So in search of land and communal living 200 school busses came to TN. They have changed alot, but they are great people. About 200 people live there full time. Anyway, you can read more on the web sites if your interested. But Ina May was really nice, and the birthing center was so homey. I had my daughter all natural in knoxville, but if I had known about The Farm, I would have had her there. Good luck-hope I didn't talk too much-they also have a herb workshop there too!!
