At this rate I wouldn't say so, but many interpreters felt that Nostradamus did. Unfortunately, I have no direct sources, but I was skimming a book in Waldenbooks on Nostradamus's predictions for 2000-2025. Every year had prophecies. Just to sum up my readings to the best extent: -The body of St Peter will be dragged for all to see in shame. (I assume this is metaphorically referring to the fall of the Catholic Church) (2006) -Feminism will rise successfully and positively (2008) -The spread of HIV and AIDS will become a more serious and contagious issue around 2013 - The world will win a different kind of "war" against the skies by successfully demolishing an astroid headed for Earth in 2012. -A chain reaction of earthquakes and tsunamis will begin to trigger a chain reaction around 2005, starting in Indonesia. It will continue to react by spreading across the Mediterrenean, the Mideast, and Wales. When it reaches North America, New York is said to divide and flood. However, despite the good and bad predictions, Nostradamus pointed out that the world, especially America, will flourish and engage in a Golden Age. Technology will advance, and peace will surface bewteen countries and society. I've heard that the guy was pretty accurate, but who knows. There's too many prophecies out there. Not every one can be taken into account.
technology advance .......hmmmm that scares me somewhat . will we all end up as robots?. perish the thought.
Given that the quatrains have been translated and interpreted over and over, I tend to be a bit skeptical about very specific understandings of Nostradamus. I also can't help but feel that America's golden age has come and gone. Considering our current government, a new golden age would require big, big, big changes.
I had a hard time of understanding why Nostradamus would think a Golden Age for America is only beginning. But then again, consider our very young and little past. We're only a country of what, 215 years? Several countries have had numerous amounts of Golden Ages for their ancient and traditional culture. A Golden Age is usually a century or half a century. We're only two centuries. The closest to a Golden Age for us was probably the Roaring Twenties or the Industrial Revolution. But even in those times, peace did not prevail, which is an important factor to a Golden Age. I'll give another decade for Nostradamus' predictions and see if things shape up. If I read my readings incorrectly, perhaps Nostradamus saw a Golden Age starting at 2025, where the predictions left off.
America is only a young country of two centuries. Golden ages usually live for a long period of time, such as a century. Could you really point out any long time period in America where a golden age prospered? The Industrial Revolution? I don't think so. It deals with technology only. The Roaring Twenties? Perhaps, but way too short. And it's long term effects brought the Depression. Several old countries on Earth have experienced an abundant amount of Golden Ages from time to time. America is still a youngster. There's still time for better prosperity that involves cultural peace and beneficial technology for the common good. Is it possible for America to engage in a Golden Age right now in the near future? Judging by the current eventual standards, I think not. However, the book pointed out that Nostradamus implied the Golden Era to rise AFTER the events that occur in the first quarter of the twenty-first century (2000-2025). And I'd rather think on a positive note, whether or not his predictions are accurate.
In the Book of Revelation it speaks about an astroid hitting the sea with such impact that it sinks a third of the ships in the sea. I wonder how John who wrote the Book of Revelation knew about astroids 2000 years ago? I believe astroids were just discovered some hundreds of years ago.
8 And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; 9 And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.
See, revelations is a hard book to interpret, given John's circumstances. It is said that this John of "Revelations" was the Jesus' beloved disciple. This could be true since John was the only disciple who wasn't martyred. Instead, he was marooned on an island in the Mediterrenean to rot. On the island, it is believed that he received visions of the future that were recorded in a cave. Now, several factors must be considered. First, being stranded on an island with limited provisions of nature will inevitably lead to insanity and hallucinations. Therefore, revelations could be based on John's possible hallucinations. Second, what if the writer was a different John, such as the Gospel John? If that's the case, we need to find out where he received this "divine" revelation. Thirdly, the Bible is known for it's symbolic language. Revelations is basically a different language composed of symbolism. Who knows what the real meaning lies behind John's visions? Quite frankly, Revelations is very different from the other books since prophecies are highly involved. It almost seems to be too mystic for the Church.
8 And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; 9 And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed What else could do this distruction and fit this discription besides and astroid?
A Vulcano, the ash of the Etna which ruined Pompeii even made it to the sea. An asteroid isn't anything like a great mountain at all.
I guess you never saw the movie Armegeddon although the movie did not even portray a fraction of what trully will happen in the end, it did portray a very large astroid. INFACT the atroid in the movie was the SIZE OF TEXAS. So don't say an asteroid "isn't like a great mountain at all." Also, I would like to see any vulcano destroy a 1/3 of the sea.... on top of it the object is "cast" or thrown into the sea not flows into the sea So therefore in Revelation when John sees this massive rock of fire in a vision he wrote down: "something like a great burning mountain"
I think you did watch that movie too many times, it ain't a documentary you know! So basically, you got your facts from an American motion picture
A golden of America starting around 2025 really isn't farfetched. If you research some of the technologies which are in thier early stages of developed, but show great promise, you would see that we are indeed headed for some very drastic changes for the better. For instance, hydrogen fuel cells, leaps and bounds in communication and media, travel all over the world will be faster and cheaper than ever (thanks in part to hydrogen fuel cells), mass production of customizable component homes will make a higher standard of living more affordable, power will be cheaper and cleaner than ever (advances in solar paneling would allow homes to generate their own power with surplus) the list goes on and on.
