Shadow - then make sure you have some other way of getting through to someone, anyone.

I think we finally broke through to you.

How does it feel to read everyones opinion on a matter such as this?

All I'm saying is - do three things.

    1) Go to the next festival with a cell, some kind of signalling device (air horn) and weapon (thumb knife)

    2) Go with dependable people

    3) Find someone like me who hates drugs whose job it will be is to chill but also keep an eye on folks

    Also...

Any guy who overly stares at you is acting like a predator.

Don't feel too bad - I'm 250lb of powerlifting meat with an eighteen inch neck and arms, but if I was to do something like ride 500mi to somewhere else, I'd make sure I had tools, adequate money, knowledge of the route. Wouldn't ride in total darkness (unlit roads, for example) or driving rain (no visibility or traction) and would ride with AT LEAST ONE OTHER PERSON so if one of us crashed the other could go for help.

you didnt break through to me, that is what I thought from the first place..

I think it is interesting to read people opinions and comments on a topic like this. but I dont always like peoples opinions, when it concerns me.

edit: also I dont have friends that I can count on.
All of the people I have ever known use me as a person to rely on. they never look out for me...
it has always been like that for me.. I went to this rave to meet NEW people.. and look what happened...

_I think knowing where you stand gives you an advantage over those that are naive.

Not all the new people you are going to meet are going to be lunatics that try to rape you, & not because they frequent the same places/show interest in the same things as you it translates into 'people you should trust from the first time you talk to them'.

You just have to use some common sense, if you want to meet new people you can do so but never follow them to an isolated place, stay visible & make sure the people you are with are aware of where you are.

And remember if it feels remotely wrong, it probably is. There is a Spanish saying that goes 'es mejor que digan aqui huyo, que aqui murio' which translates into 'it's better if they say, he/she ran from here than he/she died here'.

self-defense is quite important especially for women. just knowing a few basics could really save your ass some day. knowing how to gouge out someone's eyeballs if you really had to, or where to hit them to do maximum damage (pressure points, etc), or how to escape from someone's grip could potentially come in handy. additionally, one could carry spray or a knife (only if you know how to use it, otherwise you'll get yourself killed) or your own fists/feet in the case of martial arts.

i too am a karate kid (shotokan) and just knowing that nobody has a clue what i COULD do makes me feel comfortable in any situation. i don't know about you guys, but i don't see how it would be difficult to disarm someone at 6ft away; come on, if you wanted to you could get a kick to reach at least 8ft...

    peace.

Shotokan is the style I've trained for 15 years. It's not really flashy in the sense that we don't have high kicks, and you won't see trophy cases in our window, yet it's very traditional and quite effective, we're trained to administer a killing blow every time. With power comes responsibility, we are also taught to avoid violent and confrontational behavior. I've actually had to walk out of a biker bar 'cause I knew a guy wanted to fight me (not that I did anything wrong to him, he was just being an asshole), and I didn't wanna kill him, so I did the right thing and left, but I didn't give him the impression I was afraid of him 'cause I wasn't.

Bear in mind that self-defense is a life style thing, it's not something you can learn in a weekend seminar (though you can learn some useful stuff). It's something you work at over time, develop the mind set and the muscles.

A few women I train with are attractive and small, so you might think they're potential rape victims, but if you see them enter a room, or walk down the street, you'll think twice 'cause of the energy the exhude. I would recommend this training for any woman, and I'm fortunate that my wife has begun to train.

Someone mentioned something about being defenseless against a guy aiming a gun from across the room--I doubt he can rape you from there, and if he gets close enough, I'll bet you can take him out if you have the skills.

Sorry, but the music at a rave is hardly considered Rock 'n' Roll!

shadowd_dreamr, you are making shit up as you go. First they were friends, now they aren't the usual type of people you hang out with from day to day. First you were pretty busy dancing, now you say you were totally bored. You also claim you were totally fucked up on drugs and alchohol, but you seem to have a pretty clear thought process on everything that happened that night. I'm not an expert, but most people fucked up on drugs and alcohol don't tend to remember so much. Whatever though!

What a load of crap! Try adding "AT A SEX AND DRUGS RAVE" somewhere in that post and you'll be right. But in general, this is total BS! You hang with losers you get treated like a loser, simple as that. You hang with nice people and you'll get treated with respect.

That's fucked up, you should call the cops on the guy if you see him again. You also should try to not take walks with strange dudes you just met, too.

'Sounds to me like you're laying some of the blame on her, and while I admit she might've erred in judgement getting into the situation in the first place (and I'm sure she learned from the experience), I don't think she had it coming, the dude was obviously an opportunistic scum bag.

My wife was in the Peace Corps in South America, and she told me they had a law (or perhaps it was merely a custom) where if someone got real drunk and neglected their property, it became public property, and was up for grabs. This also applied to women who got real drunk, they could be considered public property, and a man could take his liberties without legal repercussions. We don't have that law or custom here. It's irrelevant how wasted a woman is, it's not a man's right to take liberties with her, that guy should be arrested for sexual assault.

No I am not making shit up... Everything I said was true
They used to all be REALLY good friends in high school, afer grad we all drifted and I hung out with a different crowd.. Then out of the blue they call me and invite me up to a party, I had nothing better to do, so coughed up $10 and went.
I was Bored, I didnt have any fun.. So what if I was dancing?? I was bored doing it, because noone that I knew was around me, they all left.

Like I said it was my first time doing "E", and my last, had like 4 beers and two joints.. I smoke weed quite often so it doesnt "FUCK me up", but the "E" sorta did.. I was VERY aware about what was going on around me..
I alwasy remember everything when I am stoned, and or drunk.. It isnt that hard to remember that a guy I didnt know took me into the bush with bad intentions... Geez..

mircuser, I live in BC Canada, it is all forests and mountains :).

lol this post made me laugh.. thanks

    Raves here are all nighters,
so when people show up they get high, drunk, dance, make new friends...
then the next day leave with a hang over.. and usually a funny story...

This was an all night camp/rave, so people stayed up in the bush. there was no designated drivers.. EVERYONE was fucked over..

One of my friends was Djing so I also wanted to go watch him...

The music at Raves in BC are Techno music, hard beats, big base, you cant even hear your self think...
