i believe the shins have always been indie, concidering they have released all their albums so far on an indie label(sub pop) geez krystin, thats some list! the fiery furnances, death cab for cutie, the black keys, there are a hand full of good bands on that list!
I don't even know what is considered "indie" nowadays, but lately I've been listening to lots of Stereolab. They're a pretty good band that's not very mainstream.
