This new wave of 12-17 year old punks i cant stand them, they annoy the hell out of me, they dont even know what punk is. But I have never liked punk music.

not all of them are like that but 90% are.

Depends how you interpret the word hippy. I think anyone happy with they're life, as much as people can be anyway is a 'liberated human being' as you called it. You don't have to be a vegatarian, like 60's/70's tunes, be interested in pagan rituals, be "in tune" with nature etc etc stereotype after stereotype to be happy. And just because you dislike things that doesn't make you less of a person, patience with a sensitive situation is good, but not when someone requires a shove in the right direction. I think if you call yourself anything that's abit sad really, self involved pretentiousness, nothing to do with I hate labels or whatever.

i'd say because they're all insecure about themselves so they act like their dark and badass, then they act like they hate everything. so naturally, since hippies try to love everything and everyone... they don't like them. kind of a childish version of good vs. evil?

People hate hippys because we hippys are what they wish they could be... laid-back, pacifistic, unconcerned with appearence, and all around happy people.

That is just the stupid attitude idiot Americans used to explain the September the 11th attacks "they're jealous, they want to be like us". Get over yourselves

now its time for a serious answer. i could be wrong so dont hold this against me. but here it goes....maybe punks hate hippies so much because most of their parents were hippies. the young kids want to rebel and not be anything like their parents. (parents are uncool) ect..ect...ect... i think you get the point im trying to make! punks are the new age of rebellion and they stand for everything their parents dont. which is being laid back and blah blah blah..

No, actually the mass opinion was that arabs hate what America represents a, "free, christian, capitalist nation" and therefore they want to destroy what we have... no envy involved.

In reality they hate us for being an opressive, ammoral, imperialist bunch of bigots, and want to overthrow our influence in their nations.

    But that's beside the point.

My point was; the only attacks people seem to be able to level at hippies is that we are pacifists, we are laid-back, and we are generally unconcerned with society, all of which are, undeniably, very positive traits in terms of human hapiness.

    pwned.

well i understand u ...but young boys and punks girls have often between 14 and 20 years old ...so they're born between 85 and 91 (hello nirvana)
so hum..... the people born there are more often sons and daughter of punks themselves (punk original period 77-82)

The most part of the sons of hippies are probably born between 1970 and 1985 ...to take large...

...so it don't help me to understand the whole thing...

the time age in which a person is born does not tell whether or not a person is a hippie. for one i would like to consider myself a hippie but i was born in '83. so by trying to place a time period to when you can be born to be considered a hippie is pretty damn rediculous!

The Sex Pistols a manufactured boy band started the Never Trust a Hippy slogan orchestrated by Malcolm Mclaren a Anarchist affiliated with the Situationalist movement who were into slogans.. This is a shock slogan made to provoke the people in music at the time, which was full of ex hippies making super groups such like Emerson Lake and Palmer, Yes. etc Which was one of the reasons that Punk Music was created.

Opposite to this at the time was

Crass who were singing about Anarchy Peace and Freedom a supposedly Hippy philosophy in 1977. Crass were very important to the Stonehenge Free Festival knowing and being friends with Sid Rawles the person who started it and who was killed by the state later. The Free Festival scene allowed anyone to attend but after 77 there were many punks and Hippies not hating each other and this started the first crossover bands like Here and Now, Zounds and Alternative TV. Yes there was riot at the Stonehenge Free Festival, I think in 1980 but that was Bikers against Punks . By the mid 1980's there was a massive Hippy Punk scene that was influenced by the Crass type of bands, again punks not hating hippies which then turned into the Rave culture of the nineties.

Yes there are other types of punk bands such as oi which were usually very right wing (there were exceptions like Sham 69 and Angelic Upstarts) who would hate hippies just by there fighting nature.

It is my belief that you cannot generalise about hating people such as punks hate Hippies, Americans hate Al Qaeda, as not everyone does.

    Instead love everyone

I wasn't talking about the mass opinion was I fool  Although I can see how 'idiot americans' can be misconstrued as meaning all americans ;) I don't believe hippies actually exist anymore than Father Christmas, its just how some people want to be viewed. And I think maybe its the condescending nature of so-called hippies thinking they have the answers to life when such answers don't exist.

What the fuck is this? Seriously, dude?

Ok, let's stop with all the stereotyping bullshit because it's just making me mad.

All punks don't hate hippies and not all hippies hate punks.

A hippie can be a little punkish and vice versa.

So let's drop the labels- we're not in middle school anymore.

heady moe chick im not the one putting the labels on anyone. the labels where there when i came into this thread im just puting my own damn 2 cents in if thats alright with you?

what i said is no where being 100% true but neither is half the crap people say in this place. its a free speach forum where i can say pretty much anything i want. never once did i say that ALL punks hate hippies, nor did i say that hippies hate punks. but the fact of the matter is there are a lot that do. the only reason i put "time for a serious answer" at the start of it was because my last post was me asking my "punk rock" brother why he hates hippies. his response was "because hippies are gay" (yes i know i have a very intelligent brother, but thats besides the point). the reason for me using the word serious was only because it actually was an idea. that could be true for some people. we dont know do we??? so saying that my responce is bullshit is bullshit itself. and if you are gonna post a reply with my quote please try a little harder to respond with some sence and not some easy to post liberal bullshit (im liberal myself but i also am not dumb enough to not see the liberal bullshit)

i guess an easier way for you people to understand is that this is just an idea. there is no "whole thing" no one can say that its true, and no one can say that its false. for all anyone knows there just might be at least 1 person out there that this senerio applies to.

apparently i have offended some people on this forum with my opinion. wonderful. you people just need to deal with the fact that i think differently than you.

Exactly. I thought most people left that whole prep/goth/punk stuff behind in grade 8.

You're right ... but let me tell u this

A hippie girl had more chance to be accepted in a punk group than a hippie boy in a punk group...

    There's not so much difference...but there's something...believe me...
