i think that everything in our dreams represent us in some way.if we're worried about something we might dream of a boat thats unsteady in the water.if we have problems talking to someone we might dream of trying to dial a roatary phone but cant because theyre stuck and we cant call this person because of it.a gun shooting might represent something we said and regretted it.the gun symbolizing us shooting our mouths off.but thats just me.
i think its a littile more complex then that, i think dreams are our subconscious replaying things that happen in our life useing symbols and different way of showing it,to peace things together, also to live out wants in life,i also think dream can predict future events(dont call me crazy ive had some pretty trippy experiances with this),its mainly a way for your mind to orginize thoughts and emotions with out interuption or new ideas or emotions, because with out the sences the mind would be a void with out tast, tuch, sight, sound, smell ,dreaming puts us into a void making it able to figure things out with out the confusion of new ideas or feelings.
Dreaming is a way for our minds to process things that aren't so easily processed while we're awake. It's sort of routine maintenance. Different dreams will have different purposes. I would have you think about how you feel in the dream and how you feel when you wake up. Record (write down) your dreams and talk about them with friends and/or people in this forum. As you get more experience with this, the meanings of your dreams and their purpose will become clearer.
I just think dreams are another reality we exist in. Each realm (including this one) has it's own laws and it's own storyline. The many realms are linked, and learning to perceive meaning in all realms is a good habit to get into, as is simultaneous awareness of both(?) realms. Earth Sky and Underground mean slightly different things in dreamland to wakeland, but each is usually an allegory of some sort for the other. Like the Sage said, write them down and talk about them with your friends, and you'll start seeing how things mean things in different worlds. All experience is metaphor for itself.
