I'm going to my first festival in August. :) Yay!...does the happy dance.... There's a fashion show for costumes and outrageous clothing on the second night, but I can't think of anything. :( The only idea I have is the overdone fairy. I just love making wings. ;) Anyone have some fresh costume ideas? Any where for me to go for inspiration? I'm a pretty good sewer and I'm very crafty when it comes to costumes. I just can't seem to get inspired. I was thinking of using my wedding dress somehow. It's very simple, with flowing sheer sleeves. I feel like a fairy princess in it. I've used it for costumes a few times now. I'd really like to do something different this time.

I use at least 18 gauge wire for the out line of the wings, then I stretch tulle or nylon fabric over them, and hand sew the fabric together at the center. I like to paint the fabric and embelish with glitter, beads, feathers, etc. Then I hand sew two loops of elastic to slip over my shoulders to wear them. Does that make any sense? I'll try to find the websites that I use for ideas.

hey what about a hemp goddess?
my friend was one for halloween...it was cute...she got one of those pot leaf lei's and we made her a toga like thing from sheer white fabric...she had the lei cut up and she used twist ties to tie them to her flip flops...loads of green makeup n glitter too...

I like the hemp goddess idea. Or maybe do the mother earth thing. Anymore ideas?

_How about Autumn Goddess? Tutorial-ish here

I like the fairie idea, I would make it very earthy, with lot's of greens leafs & flowers.

I like the Mother Earth idea too. A pregnant woman could be an amazing mother earth with a dress cut-out in the tummy & paint the area as the planet.

_& if you want your costume to be more extravagant you could be a gargoyle or Medusa!

The gargoyle would be fairly easy, gray stretch pants & blouse & huge wings, you just have to make sure the wings & make-up is impressive -adding horns-.

The Medusa might be a bit more intricate but at the same time can be quite sexy.

How fun. At a festival last year I saw a girl dressed up as The Dairy Queen. Big white dress, white beehive wig, white gloves, white powder and carrying milk bottles, I think. She was something.

I think I could do up my dreads to look like snakes....I like the Medusa idea. I've been looking into different Godesses to get inspiration. Thanks for all the great ideas! :)

A dragon would be cool. Then, you could have your wings but also be creative. I agree that fairies are way over done. (But don't get me wrong, I adore the little things!)

sponge bob - ok, laugh!! :D but we had a guy who took a kid's sleepin bag & made a big costume out of it for the new years happenin - it was great! it was on some kind of foam so he could slip it over his head like a poncho. something to think about, you want something that's fairly easy to move around in for dancin and pretty durable or disposable so you don't have to tiptoe around all the goofyness goin on. and i personally hate wearing costume makeup for too long, smudges & smears & makes me sweat.

Thanks for all the ideas! :) I think I've finally decided....drum roll.....I'm going as Iris, the Rainbow Goddess. I'm going to stitch up a rainbow patchwork robe/jacket and make some rainbow wings. I just can't stay away from wings. ;)
