I work with a US Marine and when he told me i was a hippie, i told him my veiws on US Marines. I really think its funny how they are always saying, we are #1, marines are the best. After talking a bit...if US Marines "talk," he said one thing i will never be able to laugh harder at, "George Bush knows what he's doing and he is doing the best he can. He's one of the best presidents." Baaahahahaha i told him that war isn't the answer to every question and he said, "yes it is."
i would have said whatever dude, u need a reality check. what would u be like if that was your family, friends neighbour anyone. i think people like that really need some sort of mental health check. even though it has proberly been drummed into them that they must serve in the army and go and kill people. i dont know how anyone can do that. i feel guilty when i feed my gecco worms. they are sick people who need help,
Man, what a dumbass...not all people in the millitary are dicks though, for the most part I don't hold it against them. Some people didn't really have any other options and the millitary seemed like a good idea, it's not really their fault. So yeah...but that guy just sounds like a dick...
quote: Of course he believes war solves problems. IT DOES, just not in the way you like. jesus christ. It always solves problems? I don't think so. Right now I feel it is creating entirely new problems. I'll say it solved a problem during world war 2, but I don't see how many of the more recent wars have solved anything. I've known other people in the military who have not lost their ability to think more freely than that.
I'd still feel sad, because it would be a wasted human life, and that's a depressing thought. Sure it's horrible that he believes all problems can be solved with violence, but that doesn't take away the fact that he's human and deserves just as much compassion as any other human, wether he returns it or not.
I generally feel sorry for the troops dying, but if somene thinks that war solves everything, I lose compassion. If someone does their job as a soldier because they are obligated to, but can still use thier brain, then I would feel for them. I had a cousin who was a marine, and he was shocking our family contantly when he joined sating things like "in this book I'm reading this marine got his first kill from 1500 feet, I hope my first kill is fromt hat far" and "I don't want to go to foreign countries unless its to kill people"...he has since become a solid person, and has calmed down since he got out, but if there had been a war at the time and he went and died, fuck him, thats what he said he wanted to do.
Understandable. You have your opinion, I have mine. One of my friends brother's was in Iraq, and he was genuinly thrilled that he was going to get to driv around a tank and blow shit up, but if he had died it still would have been horrible for me, simply because he was my friend's brother, and I would feel bad for my friend, not really his brother, but yeah...I dunno if that was even relevant...
I see where you are coming from, and I'm generally a compassionate person, but when I heard him talking about WANTING there to be a war, WANTING to killpeople, I simply couldn't see him as a good human being anymore......I would have felt bad if I had known he would eventually snap out of it though. Even my grandpa, who bombed Germany 25 times during ww2, said that he would be singing a different tune once actually in a war. But lets face it, there are a bunch of psychos who are in the military, and I guess thats where they belong, controlled killing instead of being a psycho on the street. I don't feel bad about true psychos who ENJOY killing dying, but I suspect they are way in the minority.
Yeah, I get what you're saying too. I can see hwo you would lose respect for someone who is really just going into the millitary to kill people, that's extremely fucked up.
You do realize that just because he has a different opinion than you on certain subjects doesn't automatically mean he is brainwashed right? Everyone is entitled to their own opinion, granted his is extremely stupid, and completely false, but he is still aloud to have it, and is perfectly capable of forming that opinion on his own free will, and it doesn't make him a drooling brainwashed zombie just for thinking differently than you.
If he was in the military, YES, he was brainwashed. And since he made the choice to enter the miltary, he ALLOWED himself to be brainwashed into that sort of thinking. He really didn't feel he had value as a person, so he needed a group to feel like he was 'something' and I imagine, since he felt worthless himself, he belived everyone else outside the 'group' (his buddies, military people) were indeed worthless as well and are easily manipulated and destroyed. Blessings Francine
Wait, so you believe everyone in the military is brainwashed? I would like to see your information backing up this claim, because it seems extremely far-fetched. When you provide evidence, I'll agree with you
well when he graduated basic training he swore an oath to bush (stupidest thing i can think to do) so you could expect him to like bush if he did that, but saying that war solves everything is just stupid and makes me sad. oops, spilled my water. i'm gonna go bomb some brown people.
Yeah, I agree completely, violence doesn't solve jack shit. However, he is entitled to his opinion, keep in mind, we do support free speech, and that doesn't just mean free speech for the hippies, everyone else has a right to it also.
