I saw this article and wanted to post it here for those of you who use soy in your diet. Strictly an FYI, not bashing, nor avowing its credibility. Just saw it and thought it worthy of mention. Appologies if it has already been mentioned elsewhere. The article.
no offense taken but meat can also contribute to impotency so i guess you're damned if you do, and damned if you don't
Yup. Pretty soon we'll see the announcement: "The Surgeon General has determined that living is hazardous to your health. You are advised to die immediately for your own good."
I eat lots of meat and I never have trouble getting erections. I frequently have three ejaculations a day somtimes even five and I am 45yo! I also eat a fair amount of oily fish and only eat natural fats.
I have just had a quick look at the article. I read about this years ago as I read about it in Nexus. Unfortunatly all shop where I live bread contains soy.The only way can have bread is to make it myself, something I don't always have time for.
They put Soy in everything. It's known to make men impotent and sterile, cause it's feminizing and estrogen. That's why they recommend it to old ladies who are growing moustaches and having hot flashes. Mind you, between that, vegetarianism in general, metrosexuality and Oprah they're making darn sure there will be no men left within 50 years.
The article actually refers to fertility, and not sexual function. In addition, it also mentions that consumption of soy by women might have more of a factor on fertility than consumption by men. Regardless, I'm pretty unconvinced. There are so many factors that affect fertility, consuming soy is probably not going to have much effect. Plus, the wife and I have always consumed tons of soy, and we are almost too fertile (two kids in 16 months)!
If these are the criteria on which you base being a man then you probably never stood much of a chance to begin with. BTW did you know that Rosie Greer, All Pro defensive lineman who played for the Los Angeles Rams in the 1960s and 70s, crochets or knits or does needlepoint (can't recall which)? Care to question his manhood? I double dog dare ya!
Some of the folks on the Veg. forum know that I belong to a church denomination in which the majority of members are vegetarian. These church members tend to consume large amounts of soy based meat substitutes. One family that attends my home church have seven kids and have another on the way! So much for soy having a negative effect on fertility. NBA Legend and famous Deadhead Bill Walton is a vegetarian and consumes soy products and he's certainly a very manly man. THere have been more than a few sucessful pro body builders that are vegetarian. Try going up to them and telling them that they aren't very manly. Oh and what about all those vegetarian hippies with the big thick beards?
yet another book that debunks the myth that soy is a GREAT health food http://www.theomnivore.com/Whole_Soy_Story_BR.html
You know, I find it overwhelmingly amusing that omnivores enjoy pointing out the "negatives" of eating soy. Omnivores who eat a lot of junk food probably eat more soy in the form of soy protein isolate than I eat as a Vegan. No conclusive proof of soy's benefits or dangers exist. Dozens of studies conclusively link excessive meat consumption to health problems. Of course, like those fundamentalist Christians who refuse to believe the "theory" (try fact) of Evolution, there will always be those who will expound of the mysterious and wonderful health benefits of eating dead animals.
What amuses me is how many so-called "free-thinking" vegan types are more close-minded than many omnivores.. open your mind to the POSSIBLITY that I something that you're eating could actually be crap for you what quantity of information would be required for you to open your mind? Or is all this an anti-vegan conspriacy? http://www.soyonlineservice.co.nz/ http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/503781.stm http://observer.guardian.co.uk/foodmonthly/story/0%2C9950%2C1342291%2C00.html http://www.t-nation.com/findArticle.do?article=body_87prote http://www.westonaprice.org/soy/tragedy.html http://www.mothering.com/articles/growing_child/food/soy_story.html http://www.westonaprice.org/soy/isoflavones.html http://www.t-nation.com/findArticle.do?article=302poison2 http://www.theomnivore.com/Soy_and-aggression.html http://www.t-nation.com/findArticle.do?article=body_143soy
yeah, even (well informed) vegans and vegetarians: This vegan discusses the "mysterious" benefits of b12 and Vit D....from dead animals! http://www.vegansociety.com/html/food/raw_food.php this vegetarian tells us why we are omnivores http://www.vrg.org/nutshell/omni.htm This article sums it up best, and it only has 138 references.
