i tryed searching already, sorry if i missed anything but heres what im looking to do i want to add material to make the bells bigger (the triangular patch of material usally goes up to about the kneee...if anyone knows what i mean) so any hints/tips on doing this would be appreciated also my friends and myself have been dissagreeing on weater or not this style is "hippie" (or maybe more 80-ish) or not so any clarification would be appreciated

p.s. I've searched and found some other neat ideas, mainly sidepanels, embrodery, and turning jeans into a skirt. any ideas besides those would be appreciated :)

crochet some hemp and add it on.... who cares if its "hippy" or not man... how do you classify it... not just by how you dress...doing what you yourself wants its part of being hippy in itself... but yes i do believe it is "hippy" my friend :)
i like the patchwork of like not quilt looking fabric but just random trippy pattern, seweing together a random assortment of designs and shapes of fabric.... or you could get some trim from the store and add it on to the bottom of your pants or make a big row of different ones...

i do this to alot of my jeans
i make a slit on each leg at the bottom
and i sew in pieces of fabric to make the flare bigger and it looks really cool when you add patterns with flowers
then i'll sew patches on the but of the jeans

i know it doesn't matter whether it's "hippie" or not- but it totally is. lol.... Bellbottoms were originally worn by sailors in the Navy, and as the style became popular in the 60s, some folks, rather than go and buy a pair, just inserted panels into the pants they already owned- a cheaper, alternative way to the trend. It's not at all 80's, in the 80's they went completely out of style and didn't come back until the early 90's. 80's were all about shoulder padded blazers, knee highs and tights. The ol' inverted triangle look. lol

get some sharpie markers and go nuts! write poetry, haikus and draw pictures to go with them. maybe make a story in the pants... on crafster i saw a girl do moulin rouge on her pants.... they were hot. my friend mich drew all over her pants while she was tripping, came out beautiful! she drew on mine a bit... but they werent as beautiful as hers. use an iron to heat set them or find markers for this purpose. also that puffy glue stuff is cool. i draw lil dead bears on my pants and they are sooo neat. i love them. rips your jeans too. maybe add some patchies and whatnot. just go nuts!
    peace and love

:) all sound like groovy ideas :)

many craft stores have a fringe specifically made to add to pants... that's about as decorative as I get, I'm pretty simple and a bad sewer...

I'd think you could cut, but sewing back through the seam edge by hand was the devil!
Does anyobe ever put the inset on BOTH sides?
    Hadn't noticed anyone doing that
