I can summarize Bonnaroo for ya, "heady feddie round up". They'll be selling out to ClearChannel next year.

The Super Fly guys worked too damn hard. They'll not give up their almost crown jewel (their NOLA Jazzfest action is the crown jewel and birth of the trio) to Clear Channel. The land owner could make a new rental deal, but that's chump change for CC.
For what it would cost them, it would not be worth it. (so far what I hear is that SF takes good care of the landowner, as they should)
It seems anyone who hates on a fest saysa oh, its ClearChannel.
Want to know what IS Clear Channel? Venues. They buy real estate and exclusive rights to book. A fest isn't in their portfolio. The risk is too high. One fire. One storm (imagine a twister ripping through the campground with no shelters available. some layers would put their kids and grandkids through good colleges on those settlements) one major headliner getting too ill to play. One Altamont.

I have zero true interest in Bonnaroo. Dear friends are part of it, onstage and off. other friends love going. uhh... move it to October and we'll talk (tennessee in the summer? its 90 flippin degrees in colorado ..and that's too much)

cop presence has been around a long time. I remember DEA on Dead tour (same guy popped up on Cheese seven years later) hell, DEA hangs out at rennaisance faires from time to time.
Feds are at rainbow and Burning man.
Cops have been at EVERY mid level fest and above. OF course they were in Manchester. Law of averages. Ever been pulled over and searched because of your band stickers? Law of averages for a bust.

Considering I got to see the Word's only show in the past 3 years, and Widespread with special guests: Bob Weir, Herbie Hancock, NMAS, Robert Randolph, Warren Haynes, Col. Bruce Hampton and they tore it up like no other, the thought of cops and clear channel never crossed my mind. The music was straight up unbelievable and I've been goin to Bonnaroo for the past 3 years. This was the best year since '02.

I liked bonnaroo much better this year than last year. musically they both were great, and don't let the crowds fool you, when you're in them it's much different than the photos look. this year the heat wasn't so bad I thought, and I had really great neighbors camping. This year just seemed more calm somehow, and I saw more family groups. Still missed a lot of music I wanted to see, but that's unavoidable. that's the main drawback, is so much good music, and time conflicts and energy drag don't allow you to experience every golden moment that happens there. Overall, it was pretty good though.
