I've been hearing people talking about this, and im just wondering how big or good of a magnifying glass do I need?
i use one that is about 2 or 2.5 inches in diameter. it's just a piece of shaped glass, no handle or anything. picked it up from the hardware store for free. the guy knew what i wanted it for and said "oh here, i think we have one lying around that we could just give you." sweet.
oh yeah i read about this in some heads magazine...it looks kinda cool if u dont have a lighter or somethin but i dont get how its really any 'better'??? i mean lighters are jus way easy....
Lighters are easier DejuVoo, but: using glass is cheaper and the sun needs no flint and you won't run out of fuel for a few million years.
obviously you have to solarpuff during daylight hours--ideally mid day. the benefits are amazing, however: 1. TASTE is much sweeter--pure. 2. no butane inhaled. 3. no metal shards (from flint) in your bowl--ultimately in your lungs.
I don't see how i would get flint in my bowl... I don't usualy light the bic into my bowl anyways, i just thought solar lighting would be cool to try once.
Alright, the main benefit of solar bowling is that a small focused beam of light is nowhere as hot as fire. You get THC vapor from a solar hit, not smoke. Using a magnifying glass or crystal sphere properly (the sun really has to be shining well for it to work right) will result in no burning carbon entering your lungs. Also, the THC never ignites since there's no flame, so you don't waste any upon delivery.
you would have to be the ill-ass shit to vaporize a bowl of weed without creating any smoke using a magnifying glass. damn. obviously the light will heat the weed up from room temperature to who knows how hot. somewhere in between is 220 degrees celcius; if you know how to angle a magnifying glass so that the heat is focused at that exact of a temperature needed to vaporize rather than combust the herb, PLEASE post a guide for everyone--i certainly can't do it. so really the most practical benefit of this practice is taste---the nug burns cleaner without being torched by butane; thus the last hit is almost as tasty as the first....

So are you combusting your weed when you solar bowl? I've never had that problem myself. It's all about timing and focusing the light right. Just gotta sit out on a sunny day and work with it.
I did it.... It wasn't all that great, and I don't think it was worth the hassle, but i'll bring my magnifying glass with me next time I go camping! :-D
i've spent many hours sitting out in the sun on my balcony in Barcelona, solar puffing weed and hash. it does vaporize before it smokes, but.... it's much easier to just burn it through. what do you do? do you vaporize the top and then stir up the bowl and search for unvaporized weed and then vaporize that? you'd have to constantly be stirring and picking out the brown (already vaped) bud and distinguishing it from the bud that has yet to be vaped. seems tedious to me. personally, i enjoy it as a simple alternative method of smoking. it's tasty and fun!
