I have never taken a tylonel or any other OTC pain medication in my life. I simply don't trust them for their possibly long-term effects. I also don't like the idea of relying on them every time I get a bruse.

I take meds every day. I have a chronic pain disorder, and telling people to "just deal with their pain" doesn't work for people in my state. I used to rarely take meds at all, when I was your age, even though I had the occasional migraine. The pain actually got more ingrained, due to undertreating it, and now I am stuck with daily meds for the rest of my life.

If you don't need meds, you aren't "stronger" than others, just lucky. You're young, I hope you stay so healthy and lucky. :)

I hope you are able to stay lucky enough so that you don't have to change your "views" about this. But you probably will. Don't judge other's pain unless you have lived a month in their migraine sodden head. (But your friend should not have judged YOU for your choice not to take meds for minor things, either.)

    Blessings.

I don't like taking pain killers either. I'm oddly righteous about this seeing as I take a lot of other meds, but anyway. I don't find them all that effective anyway. I also heard about someone's stomach getting ulcers from aspirin...but that could be a myth, or due to an incredibly high dosage. Anyways, just my two cents. Wow, I say 'anyway' too much. But anyway...

I take pain meds (paracetamol) for my period pains. For me, this is a pain which I can't stand, and which bothers me in many ways.

I don't use it for headaches. I have em only in very rare occasions anyway, and they are pretty weak, so usually putting myself to bed, and drink plenty of water usually gives some releave.

I don't take asperin at all though, because it gives me nosebleeds... so that is
    not an option.

And as for being in horrible pain, that it just makes you cry, and cry and cry, is a very horrible thing, and I wish you, ziggifly, that it will never come to you. I had surgery on my knee, and due to screws in bones, wounded bone tissue, and slimmed ligaments, I was in horrible pain. Until 4 days after the surgery, I had a special pain catheter, a lil hose, going right to the nerve that controls my left leg. I was injected a fluid every 6 hours, that numbed the entire leg. But after two days, my body got used to the fluid, and it didn't last the 6 hours anymore. It stopped after 5.5 hours, then after 5, 4... and believe me, I took anything additional that would make this horrible pain go away.

Nobody who does not take pain as it is, is a sissy. I am against the overusage of pain meds, that's why I usually wait before I take anything. But that is a personal decision. Also, pain is a very personal thing, that everyone feels different.

And of course, in a way treating a headache that derived from alcohol with something else... I agree that it might teach one a lesson if one doesn't take pain meds for that. But that is a totally different thing, then for example maggie's pain issue, or my knee problem (which was under controll after 3 weeks after the surgery)

I am not a doctor, but when I had my knee surgery, I got pain pills (not asperin though)that damage the stomache, so they gave me additional stomache protection pills.

A person I know has a rheumatic disorder, and took pain meds from teenage years on, she has stomache issues, because back then they didn't offer the choice of the protection pills. Also, somebody slipped her an asperin, and she gets an inflamed stomache from that, due to the damage the other pills have done.

And after all, the main ingredient of asperin is an acid, and some people just are stomache sensitive to acids.

So there seems to be a connection between pain meds and stomache issues.

I'm with you on that. I try to take the least amount of drugs possible. Vitamins, Fish Oil, and Antioxidants are the only pills I currently put down my throat.

Frankly, I'm just against taking painkillers for a pain I don't know the cause of. Then you're treating the symptom and not the cause which is never a good thing. For example, with a headache, I use food as my medicine. I assume that a headache is a deficiency of some sort of nutrient, so I try to eat something well-balanced and high in nutrients. It works a lot better for me than popping an asprin because I know I'm not just killing pain, but treating the cause as well.
