    Hey,
Just bought seeds for collards, asparagus, and brussel sprouts.
Was wondering if anyone else in zone 8 had planted theses
and if so do you have any tips ?

sow them all in the ground in a prepaired seed bed, as opposed to trays. for the asparagus this is espically important as it hates beeing transplanted (which you may be forced to do if it became pot bound), thin all seedlings to about 8cm and the asparagus to perhaps 15cm. brassicas obviously will be transplanted this summer to growing posituion, but asparagus is best planted out to perminent bed in april as one year old crowns. i dont know what zone8 is im in uk but id say hurry up. Also think about spring cabbadges for 2006 to sow in july/august 2005. Brassicas are a vital crop in any temperate garden.
    best wishes

Thanks for the info...I'm in a hot humid southern coastal climate.
Know they grow collards here in the winter . Dad used to have
an asparagus bed when I was a kid. I love the things.
Perhaps there is a cold hardy variety ?

...of asparagus? its been grown in uk for many many years my grandfather planted a huge bed of it, this is when we actually had cold winters here, not just a few cold snaps. It is a long term crop though, 20 years of so, so i would try to get some local advise if you are concerned.
    best wishes

In the grocery stores I've seen the white variety. Anyone ever tried those ?
That's of asparagus. I'll try to find others in my area that have grown the above mentioned. Thanks again for the info.
