Aye. So, give me your list. I say: Les Claypool Martin Mendez Cliff Burton (RIP) Steve Harris I'll edit more on here when I think of them and have time. I'm in the process of staining my deck. Joy.
Both have been mentioned previously, but Victor Woothen and Claypool.I don't wanna make anybody cry, but just cuz Cliff was a part of metallica doesn't mean he is one of the greatest.
John Entwistle Phil Lesh Les Claypool ...and the greatest bass player, who no one can touch.... MIKE GORDON!!! mike lays down the phattest lines and the funkiest solos....nobody has ever hit me with such bass......long live mike! the only smart one in the band! who's trying to keep it together....genius is he.....
Yea I have to give Geddy Lee credit because he actually was the one that taught Les and maybe someone else but i can't think of it now.
It's not because he was in Metallica. They're quite possibly the most overrated metal band ever. Cliff was a fucking insane bassist.
Indeed, however the first 3 albums of Metallica aren't overrated in my opinion. Still very good stuff.

I pretty much started playing bass after listening to Steve Harris. That solo from "Rime of the Ancient Mariner" is amazing! Then I heard Billy Sheehan. That completely blew me away.
