wow, i urge you to watch (listen) to 'what is and what should never be' by led zeppelin on their concert dvd (disc 1) at royal albert hall. the song isn't really great on their second album because you can't really hear the guitar but on the dvd it is simply amazing. just a beautiful remdition of the song, has a real blues sound. now i'm just really dissapointed that it doesn't sound that good on the album . so if you have the dvd (the one w/ the desert landscape on the cover) please listen to it! thanks.
I have that DVD, and I've watched that video probably 2 or 3 hundred times. I've interpreted it so many ways in so many different situations in my life. Great song. Great band, and my favorite DVD I own. I've watched that 2 disk set at least 1000 times. Best 50 bucks I ever spent. (I think thats what I payed for it. I got it the day it was released a couple years ago)
i know what you mean, it seems like i'm watching it every day. one of the most worthwhile things i've ever bought, but i watch the hell out of earl's court and madison square garden... it's border-line obcessive.
Dude if you bought that thing for 50 bucks you got ripped I've bought it when it came out at Circuit City and when you bought "How The West Was Won" it was only $30 as a promotional deal for the release. You can still find it for about $25 now. As for "What Is And What Should Never Be" I have to ask you what kind of copy of Led Zeppelin II do you have? It's been digitally remastered on CD and personally I think the studio copy sounds awesome, Jimmy Page produced it, it's the way he wanted it. My favorite part on the studio copy is then end. If you turn it up really loud you'll hear those power chords come thru the Left side speakers I believe, then the guitar comes at you from the right side. It makes almost a 3D sound almost like your hearing 2 guitarist rock your ass off at once! I seriously think if you think the Led Zep II version of that song didn't have enough Jimmy Page, your not turning the volume up enough to get all the treble and bass! Crank it up man!
no, the album II i have was produced by jimmy page so that isn't it. and i consider music wasted if it isn't destroying my ear drums, so maybe i just have to adjust my treble settings or something, idk. ha, watching bonzo's solo on moby dick now... madness.
I do like the fact that your diggin Led Zeppelin the DVD is gold! Saddly I alway's watch it at the end of a day and seem to only catch it in bits and pieces, but if you like that you need to hear How the west was won, Bonzo's Drums kill small young childeren and old women on that thing he's so explosive, and Jones bass playing is so tight with the drums right on time and heavy! But what can you say for Robert Plant the true Voice of Heavy Metal ( Ozzy eat your heart out) and the man that made Marshall Amps a house hold name to all the Guitarist of the decad Jimmy Page! Gosh what can you say about him that hasn't already been said? "You know Led Zeppelin is still my favorite band"- Jimmy Page in a 2003 Guitar world mag.
haha, yeah bonzo's drumming is pretty insane, and yes i do have how the west was won, been busy lately though so i haven't really had time to sink my teeth into it.
i too own the dvd, its amazing! Achilles Last Stand is amazing on that dvd. definatly one of my favorites on the dvd.
The DVD is the best thing since sliced bread! Although, I have to say, I tend to watch the full versions of the Earls Court and Knebworth shows along with Seattle '77 that are nestled nicely in my stash. 'The Ocean' from MSG is probably one of the most devastating pieces of concert performance i've ever witnessed! Pure magic.
