The saddest thing about the military to me is that we let the poorest of the poor fight wars for the interests of the richest of the rich.

anyone that believe that we are fighting for "freedom and democracy" is truly an idiot.
    It's all about the money.

    *chinese whispers*

The main objective of this thread imho is to say that all people in the military are brainwashed drones.. not true. There are 'dicks' in all walks of life. It is a bit unfair to make....well others have explained that point better than i will.

As it would have to. We can't have our guys in the military afraid to pull a trigger. We can't have our military trained only to pet puppies and give small children hugs. They have a dirty job, and have to be prepared for it. Their training may freak some people out, but the military ain't no game. These soldiers have to be able to pull the trigger and keep their sanity, otherwise how will they be able to defend their country?

I am completely against the war in Iraq, I am against offensive military action. I think our military should be used for defense and aid. But that doesn't mean I don't want a properly trained, experienced, and reactive military.

Gee, I thought that the oath was taken before Basic. I also recall that it was an oath to the constitution, not to an individual or even to the office of the President.

Where did you hear about that post-Basic oath to Bush?

For some strange reason this Thread reminds me of

"And I waked in and sat down and they gave
me a piece of paper, said, "Kid, see the phsychiatrist, room 604."

And I went up there, I said, "Shrink, I want to kill. I mean, I wanna, I
wanna kill. Kill. I wanna, I wanna see, I wanna see blood and gore and
guts and veins in my teeth. Eat dead burnt bodies. I mean kill, Kill,
KILL, KILL." And I started jumpin up and down yelling, "KILL, KILL," and
he started jumpin up and down with me and we was both jumping up and down
yelling, "KILL, KILL." And the sargent came over, pinned a medal on me,
sent me down the hall, said, "You're our boy.""

study up a bit on the psychology of mind control and indoctrination...the military does use lots of these techniques like limiting speach and action...behavior control...information control...cognitive dissonance theory...etc. etc. etc.

not to mention the group dynamics between fellow soldiers....boot camp is by every definition an indoctrination camp.

And I also don't see how people can say we "allow" the poorest of the poor to fight. Hello, are you in the military? Joining the miltary is VOLUNTARY. No one FORCES you. It is YOUR choice. (The draft not counted here and that is vile but I am not speaking of that now) So, it is that poor mans choice to fight and ironcally, sometimes the poor man fights BECAUSE of money.
I have 2 personal experiences with people who are in the military. One, which I spoke of eariler, He lost his sense of self, he lost his own will, his own mind, not to mention his heart, which then lead him to decide to join the military. He went through some rough times, his parents were heavy on him, he joined. And since he had lost his will, it then became easier to brainwashing him to further hate the 'enemies' he was fighting, to justify his actions and make them seem "right", instead of "wrong."
Second personal experience was with someone who also had parents that completely would not help him in anyway way. He was poor, had no money. He saw that the quickest way to make money was to indeed, join the military (primarily for a college education....). Now, someone with a fuctioning heart, someone who understood the components of compassion, would have chose a different course of action.
And of course, I do know of the people who go just for the thrill and rush of destruction, annihaltion and the end of life and can kill without feeling a thing. The government needs serial killers.
Now, why would any human want to join the military if they didn't want to kill/be killed? The intent of attain peace, within, will lead to peace, without.

    Blessings
    Francine

If anyone thinks that our soliders aran't brainwashed to a certain extent they are naive. You can't take a person and not train him and get him used to the fact that he is going to have to kill and expect him to be a good solider. The thing that makes me and most people on the board different is that, i think nothing bad of this.

Of course he's brainwashed. He's in the Marines. Have you ever seen a Marine who wasn't? The "Corp" couldn't operate if they didn't destroy people and rebuild them as killing robots.

In my life, all the Marines I have known were fucked up in the head. I don't know if they CHOOSE the ones who are already fucked up, or if they choose them and THEN fuck them up on purpose, or a combination of the two. But I have never met a stable Marine. Ever. JMO.

That doesn't really make any sense. It's the same sort of reasoning that I hear from conservatives who suggest that being poor is a choice. If you live in a culture of discrimination and poverty and you have children to feed, suddenly it's not so much of a choice anymore. It's called OPPRESSION.

There's a bad seed in every group, the military is no different. There are going to be ignorant dicks who serve, but there will also be good people. Don't judge the military because of the those that make it look bad - and don't assume they support Bush.

  18. more people who support the war join the army, more people who support the army support bush...

it's logic, come on figure it out.....

Sure, it comes to equal that most of the time. But it's illogical to say that all of our armed forces support the president's decisions to go to war. Because you know that people are going to sign up to defend the country either way. War knows no politics.
