color changing pipes

what is the diffrence between a pipe fumed with gold as aposed to silver. which is better, im asuming gold is...but why. how does it work?

 

ACtually neither one is necessarily better than the other. The difference is what color the pipe fills in as you smoke it. They will also fume with other metals to achieve different colors... Unfortunatly i can't remember what metals fill in what colors... I did a little looking around the net to see if i could find anything but it wasnt coming up, i found out talking to a guy in a pipe shop in venice but possibly a glass blowing forum (i know there are some that are pretty pipe specific) could bring about an answer. In the mean time i'll look some more cause now i'm courious and it's gonna drive me nuts.
