There should be little or no profit from these shows. Tickets should be cheap, and refreshments should be cheap, and the money from that goes to the hard working roadies and people working the consession stands. The only down side to some festivals is that some bands will refuse to go on until they see their cash. That's not what we should do. It should be something like Monterey where all of the bands played for free, because it should be for charity. That's what these shows should earn money for.

Charities like AIDS research, Cancer Research, Money to the poor in Africa & India, Environmental Help, etc., are charities that should benefit from concerts, not companies like Clear Channel, who killed Bonnaroo.

There has to be a good representation of our way of life, presented in all aspects of the show. Whether it be music, money making, food, the crowd's well-being, etc.

One other reason why big festivals like Woodstock, Monterey, Bath, etc. went well, was because of the feeling. The feeling is what matters the most. We have to have the right kind of music, folk, rock, country, etc. Peaceful stuff. Stuff that the crowd can soak in, and enjoy. No Kid Rock or Korn or Metallica, but music that's heavy enough to please.

That's what a festival should be. Cheap, good for the world, and good for the people coming there. And putting it on the road, going to outdoor ampitheatres, would spread it to a wider audience so big, that the flow would be uncontrollable.

I was talking with lunar forest regarding this idea and it's really great to see so many people so passionate about making this happen. Now that the ball has begun to start roilling, it's time to really make this happen.

1st)a site...enough room for campsites, a stage, and massive amounts of people. not to mention vendors.

    2) a budget....we need to try and figure out how much everything will cost

3)sponsors...obviously needed to make this cost cheaper.

4)musicians...folk and rock only. we all saw what happened to woodstock 99 when a group like Limp Bizkit was invited. DMB, The Dead, Bela, Phish, etc.

5)advertisement...starts with flyers, eventually if it gets big enough the media will pick it up and from there we're golden.

I think we should start finding people to head up different things. im gettin really excited folks, as this could truly be somehting special, and to think it started at hipforums on a whim. so any volunteers to head up certain aspects, please stand up. i will do all i can in making this happen. lets do it guys. lets stamp our generation on the map and give the 1960's gen. something to be proud of.

    peace and love

I will volunteer my time and energy for anything. SO, just place me in a certain aspect of this festival and I'll do my damnedest. Right... so...I would definately do just about anything including setting up/cleaning up....traveling w/ everyone involved to help... all that what not. I could also do alot of advertising, etc. I don't know....just place me in a mission and I'll strive to ge beyond and deliver over 100%. Loves to you all......This is not only exciting but something that MUST happen.

If you all think it is a good idea, I could make a really groovy website about the fest. If we are all in agreement, then I will call it http://www.PeaceFest2004.tk Does that work for everyone? If so, I'll get started a.s.a.p.

Both sides of the Atlantic, if it's a travelling show. And how can we be sure if it will be in 2004?

Count me in! I'd be willing to volunteer for anything needed. Ohio would be convenient for me as well, but whatever everyone decides on will be cool. I would be willing to set up a booth too if more are needed. Just let me know and I can start gettin stuff together to sell. I'd be willin to help advertise and everything too.. It's really a great idea! I think a website would be helpful also.. Well, PM w/ further plans.

This is the kind of brainstorming that we need!

I think that if we can get enough people invovled than we could hold it in differnt locations. It wouldn't evne have to be the same bands, because it's not a about the bands. It's about music in general, and more importantly, peace and love!

I think that the bands NEED to volunteer, because it is not about money, and if they are in it for the money, I think we'd all rather not have them. That also makes it a whole hell of a lot cheaper! Also, everyone needs to volunteer, otherwise the costs would be impossible, and again, it's not about the money, it's about the love!

The sponsors idea is exelant!!! Who are we thinking of?

Folk, rock, and I'd have to say Reggae, too! But you are right, we don't want any fred dursts smashing things and getting everybody worked up!

Nathan, you could get cracking on that web site. I think that is a great idea! Can we have a message board kind of thing on there, so that we can discuss all this there, or is that too much?

    Did I forget anything?

and i'm in on trying to help, just as long as someone gives me a ride... haha.

    peace,

I think the best charity that could be supported by a group of hippies that would help the most to undo the damage caused by the 60's generation, and help stop the lasting effects of the USSR's efforts to "overthrow america through there youth"(as Khrushchev said) would be a charity that helped combat drug addiction. I know many of you like drugs or want them legalized but your opinions would change if your children's lives went to hell in a handbasket because of them....

now just incase you dont know that the USSR did have a role in drugs....
    1. Khrushchev gave a speech at the UN in the 50's or early 60's regarding it..
    2. the USSR supported many countries who sell drugs as a cash crop (columbia, china, and cuba and they exported them themselves)
    3. its working.. as evidenced by the increasing percentage of our population living behind bars due to drug-related crimes....

If they did this they would make a big difference and parents would like the fact that the rock scene is not supporting drugs for once... I know from my expierence that drugs are common at rock concerts and I'm sure parents know... doing this the bands could break a stereotype that is true for the most part..

The site I made for the Peace Fest is up and running. It is: http://www.PeaceFest2005.tk It needs an intro on the first page, and a 'info' page so curious people can know more. I have also created a forum for just the Fest. There is a link on the .tk page. Hope that someone could help me out with an intro essay. Thanks!

Im not sayin aneything bout communism.. Im just saying the USSR is bad.. although I think Gorbachev was a great man. I wasn't saying do it to beat the USSR I was pointing out that It was something we should do because it is an attack on america.. the war on drugs hasn't done aneything.. we need to keep it up but getting drug users into rehab would be much more of a sucess and if rock bands would do it it would be a win/win situation..
