Found a hurt burd. It didn't look visibly injured, no wounds or blood or anything that looked broken but it was just sitting around looking hurt, not moving, flapped its wings a bit, but was very lethargic. I put two plastic bags on each hand and put it in a shoe box in the backyard in a tree. What now?

    maybe he's dying? poor bird.[IMG]

Is there a 24 hour emergency vet office in your area? I found an injured bird in my home once at 3am (thanks to my cat) and that is where I took it.....they actually told me that they didn't "take birds" and that I should take it back home with me untill I can find someone to take the bird... but taking it home with 2 cats around was not an option so when the receptionist left the desk I left the bird on the counter in the box, rang the bell again, and left. I can't imagine that they'd have not cared for him...they were a vets office for goodness sake! Check your phone book and see if there are any emergency vets anywhere nearby, otherwise wait untill morning, and if he's still there call someone at animal control and they will come pick him up I gather....good luck.

The mortality rate of birds once they've been taken out of the wild is really high. Do you think it might be a baby bird? If it is a baby bird then it's always best to leave them where they are. Often the mother just leaves them for a bit and comes back to them. It is so sad that often during the time they've been left, people come and think they are abandoned or injured and they take them in and take them to wildlife shelters and stuff. If they were just left on their own they'd have all the natural resources they need to get better.
It really would be best just to move it under a bush or hedge or something, where a cat won't see it so easily, and just leave it to its own devices.

Good luck with it! I Hope it gets better.
    Love,

we have 4 cats at the moment i ahve a baby mouse in a box next to me and another mouse under the fridge!!!! if anyones cat brings a mouse/bird/frog etc in, if you can get it off your cat get a box. and get a towel and pick it up and put it in the box with a lid on so it is dark, keep it warm dont try and feed it by hand either which alot of people do you could put seeds and water in with it. if it lasts for about 24 hrs then it should surive. if it looks injured phone a wildlife centre or something, i wouldn't take say a pidgeon to a vets cause they will put it to sleep. they have no choice really cause if it got a bad wing if they want to heal it they aint gonna pay for it no one will so they give them injection. lovely or what. but thats all you can do really, we get lods of animals here as i said i have a baby mouse who is in a box with hay, grass and woodshaving he looks ok i will free him tonight sometime my poor little cat doesnt know i really dont want a mouse. and it was under the computer so i dont know how long its been here. good luck with your birdie
