Dont worry. Its normal for dreads to work loose and then reform. I would just let me do there thing!

JUst remeber that everyone's hair is different. But in time they will dread. Just try not to mess with em to much! I never look at my back, but every once in awhile ill check it out and it reminds me of how much they have knotted!

I was going to post a thread about this as well.
I have had my dreads for about 8 months (I think) and at first they were so great and super tight. Then at about 3 months they started to unravel and my hair got really soft and undreaded in some spots. I've just left them since because I've hoped they will form and knot back up by themselves but they're not. I wash with Dr.Bonners soap and palm roll every once in a while but they don't really feel like they are forming yet. I just want them to really knot up and matttogether. Any advice would be very appreciated.

This is my most recent picture, sorry you can't really see the dreads very well.. I'll post a better one as soon as I get one.

They're gonna look like shit for about three months. Then all of a sudden you'll look in the mirror and be like, HOLY HELL I HAVE DREADSSS.

Let 'em do their thing. Roll 'em, play with them a lot. Good times.

I've had my dreads for almost a year...and they still aren't all knotted up. Most of them are, but there are spots where I have "fly aways". It takes years for them to knot up completely. Be patient.

So it's "normal" or okay to have them not very matted or knotted at all at the age of 8ish months? I keep waiting for them to start getting matted but it's not happening.

All hair is different...some people's hair knots up fast...some slow...

My hair has knotted, unknotted, knotted up again, and unknotted again.

Whatever your hair is doing is normal...it's not going to look perfect after eight months. For them to look perfect it takes years and years...I had a friend that had his for TEN YEARS...and he still had fly aways and some that were still unknotting and knotting. But that's the beauty of dreads...they have their own personalities :)

Yeah people expect that of my dreads too. I hate people telling me my dreads are looking worse and worse (cuz I used to use wax). I also hate people telling me my dreads are coming out, I know they are. It's so annoying having people expecting your dreads to be perfect.

Go work out in the sun, the sweat has seemed to help my dreads alot in the last month. Also go for a swim in the ocean!

i just got dreads probably a week ago, well exactly a week ago today and i think they are lookin alright, i mean the dreading and matting part they are doing good, but my mom keeps telling me that they look bad and i should take them out while i still can, but i think they look bad becuz there are peaces of hair that still need to find a dread. I know it will take a while but no one else seems to understand that. and they do look like they are coming apart and it pisses me off but i just let em do what they want and keep palm rolling.
