Where I believe Marijuana is legal(unless I am wrong).... Or other places where people can smoke pot freely.... Is the society more free from violence, depression, negativity? I wonder if places like the states like where I am could take a cue from these places. Anyone ever been there or know much about it?

    Excuse me?

Marijuana is NOT legal in Jamaica. It's just that there are a lot of people who break the law, just like in Canada in Vancouver.

Jamaica is a crime ridden slum. Bullets regularly take down women and children.

even though the reefer may be legal in Jamaica, its still a third world country... and thats why reggae is songs of redemption.

but im sure there are hundreds of beautiful places on earth where weed is legal, and its a beautiful society :)

I'd go to alaska or amsterdam if I wanted to openly smoke pot, but I find that hiding it is not that great of a burden.

Reefer is NOT legal in jamaica... people break the law like mentioned earlier. It is a sacrament of the island's main religion, Rastafarianism. It also grows freely. That's why many choose to smoke it.

Also like mentioned before though, Jamaica has pretty bad poverty, so with poverty comes violence.

i was not sure if it was, so i just said MAY BE.

i do know that if you make a pilgrammage to Jamaica with certain circumstances, you can become legally rastafarian and smoke pot a little more openly...i forget where i heard that.

what places have you all been to in Jamaica?? somebody called it a slum; this is not exactly accurate...

Kingston is a very hip and generally safe place. the people are overly kind and very welcoming of foreigners--even whites. and yes they smoke pot all the time, everywhere. this is a functional city, not a dirty slum of violence.

If you think Jamaica is about resorts and shit, you haven't seen Jamaica to the fullest. You go to a shop somewhere and they'll have diamonds just laying everywhere and nobody steals them. Of course, if you do, they'll signal a guard somewhere on the streat when you try to run, they shoot you in the leg or something... until the guards can determine you're guilty of the crime, then they can take you out back into a field or an alley and kill you or just do it on the spot.

Though I've never been there, I have seen some documentaries on Kingston and wouldn't call it safe. There are slums there, and a lot of violence in those slums.

most people i've talked to who have gone to jamacia say it is a slum... unless you dont leave the Beach's or Island Resort private areas... or the near by areas of the resorts... my boss said he was there and it was terrible... natives kept on naggin him to buy everything from ganj to cocaine to heroin... but who knows... i've also watched some travel shows that showed how nice jamacia was... guess it all just depends... people have told me Rio De Jenero is nice... yet its one of the highest murder rates in the world(to the point that high violence areas in rio no longer have speed limits, meaning you can do 80 in a suburb) just gotta be careful is all... be cool and im sure good karma will follow

unless you are in a resort, everywhere in Jamiaca is the ghetto. Violence does occur, but percentage-wise it isn't any worse than any other 3rd world counrty.
like said before, ganja is not legal, but you have to be puffing openly down the street and blow your hit to a cop to get arrested. It's accepted most places.

You have to be very careful about the dealers. They want your money and will do anything they can to get it. If you really want drugs without being hassled, get it from the people who work in the hotel you are staying at.

It is beautiful. And even in poverty, the general mood down there is much brighter. Good vibes from most everyone you meet. :)
