http://www.earthday.net/footprint/info.asp I've improved since I last took this test ... 6 months ago I needed 1.8 planets and now I only need 1.2
1.4 planets. But I think I made a mistake or two. I don't have a clue about the population of my town, nor do I know the size of this house in square metres. And if I were to ask people in my neighbourhood how much waste they generate so I can share it with the interwebs, they would probably drag me inside and feast on my corpse.
FOOD 1.2 MOBILITY 0.2 SHELTER 0.4 GOODS/SERVICES 0.3 TOTAL FOOTPRINT 2.1 IF EVERYONE LIVED LIKE YOU, WE WOULD NEED 1.2 PLANETS. Aye, I need to sort out my shopping for food habits. I just can't be arsed cooking properly!! Mobility is good though, I walk or cycle everywhere. ~
i got 1.8 ... but that was with me doing the bit about the car, and i don't have a car... there wasn't an option for that
I can't find it , but this was posted on here before.. i got 1 planet (honestly).. I thought all you lot were keen on the environment.. jeesus you should all take a look at what you get upto ... . It aint all those people in SUVs its you buggers...
AS far as i can tell its due to the food packaging and car use thing. I got 1.1 planets probably cos i grow my own food and hardly use my car, and if i do use it, its always with someone in it too. I'm not perfect tho, i eat meat which is incredibly wasteful (16 times more energy is used to create meat than is used to grow cereals and pulses). People can't really help some of these things though. Companies fuck us over for instance: They sell us products in unnecessarily large amounts of packaging Energy efficiency is now used more as an advertisement gimmick than a proper reason to save energy. Until oil runs out, cars and planes (probably the most polluting form of transport) are going to run on petrol and theres nothing we can do about it on a large scale. People no longer grow their own food, even flats with no gardens can grow things like carrotts in window boxes and chilli plants etc in pots in warm rooms. I find it frustrating to know that this planet is screwed unless EVERYONE tries to change it.
Mine went down in the last few months because I'm eating better food. I stopped eating meat 11 months ago but was still eating other junk for ages. Now that I'm eating a lot more fresh food it also means that I'm producing less rubbish. I'm surprised mine isn't higher because I live alone, in the middle of London and drive.
They are not all bad, the bigger company are sometimes better than the smaller ones even if it is PR.. I work for british gas and they are rolling out this http://www.hipforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=92771&highlight=windsave prety soon, British telecom have some of there engineers using public transport..heck even Mcdonalds aint that bad (IMHO i hasten to add ). Thats true, transportation needs (protection) taken away from the equation..lots of waste, better though than years ago. Energy efficiency is now used more as an advertisement gimmick than a proper reason to save energy. True, though the companys that produce those forms of transport will be the ones producing the 'better' forms of transport...because they have the money know how and reason to do it (money). Generaly those same company get all the 'grief' http://www.greenpeace.org.uk/climate/climate.cfm?&UCIDParam=20050516075938 irony is a bitch. If we all grew our own food, that would probably be worse than 'big' farms doing it, plus a massive waste of land space. Thats true, i was only joking (by the way).. i laughed that you guys and gals (and the wild stereotypes it took to find it funny) were so bad.. i meant no offence...
1.5 for me, but some of the questions are asking for accurate answers that I personally just had to guess at.
Fuck! I got 1.8! I bet some others have done that badly but haven't had the guts to admit it. I'm a carnivore When I went to the take action bit it told me loads of stuff I already do like using enrgy saving shit. It's all about the meat though. I clearly eat too much of it.
...... I ranted about this before.... THIS IS A FALACIOUS SURVEY! you can't get les than 1 planet, if we needed more than one planet right now we'd be fucked, we don't, you could hydroponically grow all of humanities food in the space of the state of ARKANSAS not a big state, since you can't go down to zero the thing is on a borken curve, it is mathematically flawed....... zero has to exist even if it's not true, even if you can only really score .1 and still be alive the math doesn't work if zero isn't there........
jeesus christ Qt it is merely a attempt at displaying the 'footprint' we all contribute too.. just a simple little 'guide'...
