http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&lr=&q=US+political+prisoners BassistReid. I'm not going to talk to you unless you come up with an apology.
the united states has political prisoners, so? What does that mean to me, I don't support it, I can't do anything about it individually moere than I have done (contacted every politician whose constituancy I fall under, research, protest) By the way I can do those things, in cuba if I tried, my ass would already have joined theirs..... in a jail cell awaiting a long\indefinate sentence.....
infact both nations have prison populations around 2% of the total pop similar %s of political prisoner populations, the only diffenence is in cuba, legally, the police need a warrant to arrest u, u, legally must recieve a trial within a reasonable period after being arrested, and in cuba, and government doesnt consider marajuana users as terrorists who can recieve anywhere from 20 years to a lifetime in jail, all as defined in the patriot act. have u ever visited cuba, and tried excercizing ur rts, apparantly u havent so u shouldnt speak on the issue...coming from someone who has, its not much different from here...there are protests, during my stay i happened to sumble upon an anti-gun rally barricading a cuban gunshop.
Also, in order for the police to arrest a person, they will have to ask for the approval of a democratically elected member on a local level, in the respective areas. So let's say the police want to arrest a person (for whatever reason) in Tunas de Zaza, the police will have to ask for the approval of the democratically elected person in the areas the crime has occured. This is one of the many checks that are made, in order to ensure that the government does not abuse it's power.
If Communism works so fucking wonderfully, why was/is the economy in East Germany complete shit compared to the economy in the west.
because every fucking body in the world had an embargo against them, 1. 2, because they werent actually communist, they were revionist(like brezhnev's russia)
Communism wasn't the social system in Eastern Europe. Economy, completely shit, compared to what? Let's take the space race, for example. In 1957 the USSR send the first satelitte ever, into space. The Soviet dog Laika is the first animal in space. The Soviet probe Luna 2 reach the moon. The Soviets were also the first in the world to send up the manned spaceship, Vostok 1. That was in 1961. In 1961, The Russian cosmonaut, Valentina Teresjkova, become the first women in space. 1965: Aleksey Leonov become the first man to "walk" in space. In 1970, a Soviet spaceship reach Venus. They were the first to flyby Mars, and in 1972, they reach Mars, before everyone else. The only thing the US accomplished, was to put a man on the moon, but also, that was about the only mission the Soviets wouldn't bother doing. They could have, but they decided not to.
despite all that, the incomes were fairly similar, and civil rts were a hellova lot better in east... http://tiss.zdv.uni-tuebingen.de/webroot/sp/spsba01_W98_1/denver8.htm
http://www.fatemi.com/CONFERENCES/prey2.html http://www.ce-review.org/01/5/seliger5.html Both show that the East German economy is still lagging behind that of the West even 16 years after reuninifaction. The is caused mainly becuase East Germany was no where close to the west in economic terms and once the Country was together again, East German industries were unable to keep up with the industries of the west and given that they no longer had the Soviet Union as a trading partner they were left in the dust by the Western industries.
yes, we all agreed east is behind in terms of per capita income...for many reasons noen of which have anything to do with socialism, marxism, or communism..we just went over that... and in the 16 yrs since their economy still isnt in good shape which also shows that capitalism cant even save this regions economy...also dont forget their economy was shit before USSR... we're so quick to scold the USSR for invading east germany and taking advantage of the resources, but we cant forget they won the war, they got there first, so if anyone has a right to that land, its them...(after the germans ofcourse)... also u must keep in mind, stalin made sure they didnt have a strong economy, they wanted germany to be a "[an] agricultural farmland so underdeveloped they would never be capable of staging another attack" i know thats not stalins "exact" quote. Im off, Im sure, by a word or two...but thats the picture, they wanted all of germany to be weak, out of fear of anyther german invasion, they had quite a few in the past...this just shows east and west germany are terrible examples...u wanna compare economies compare ussr's (who werent even really marxist) to some of the capitalist countries in europe that participated in the war... very few countries in the world had economies stronger than that of the post war USSR, despite their massive losses during such as event... http://www.studyworld.com/newsite/ReportEssay/History/General%5CRise_of_Superpowers_After_WWII-81.htm
The reason East Germany's economy is still shit is because of a 40 years of backward industry. Capitalism is helping improve it. Also America's post-war sucess should be more than enough reason to choose capitalism over communism.
capitalism isnt helping, ussr not being there is helping... capitalism is helping e. germany about as well as its helping russia [fighting to hold back a laugh], i'd say all of western europe lifting their embargos had some effect as well, dont ya think?
what do u mean communism doesnt work, it worked for ussr, Communism, the stateless society without money or markets, organized according to the principle "from each according to ability, to each according to need" –Communism has never been accomplished. It is the last after socialism according to Marx ideas of achievement. Therefore socialism is what has been in USSR =Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. They Even made it clear by the name of the country that it wasn’t communism. sigh are you ever going to understand that communism will never work? Becaue it has never been achived you can’t tell if it will or not after conclutions by looking back in history.
Communism interests me because I have this idea it makes a committment to equality. I'm an enthusiastic supporter of the idea -- and ideal -- of real equality. In my view socioeconomic inequality = immorality. I define True Communism, simply, as a society where noncorrupt near perfect socioeconomic equality has been achieved. This all makes me interested in the (nominally) communist countries that currently exist and I'm wondering which one does the best job of living up to the standard of True Communism as I define it. Communism and GraffitiSoul what are your opinions who does the best job? Cuba, China, Vietnam, N. Korea? (I saw an NPR presentation about N. Korea it was very interesting it seemed to show a different side of things from what we usually get.) Also -- what do you think of Hugo Chavez's Venezuela? (Today I was reading in a Newsweek (9 May 05) about the CEO of Haier Appliances in China, one of the top 5 appliance manufacturers in the world. This company has 30k employees and represents assets of $12 billion it is owned by the Chinese gov't or workers (depending on how you view it). The thing that interested me most is that the article said their CEO only makes about $800 a month and last year earned $3000 in bonuses. This doesn't sound like alot and it pleased me to think that maybe they still strive for the ideal of socioeconomic equality in China. But then I realized this is probably many times more than what an average worker there receives...) So how much have these nations jettisoned their communist ideals? How much are they still trying to live up to an egalitarian standard? Who's doing the best job I'd appreciate your views.
according to dictionary.com Communism A system of government in which the state plans and controls the economy and a single, often authoritarian party holds power, claiming to make progress toward a higher social order in which all goods are equally shared by the people. i think that fits the description...sigh...while ur echoing my posts maybe u can echo the one where i admitted they werent actually marxist -socialist-or communist... obviously the person who said communism wont work, was referring to ussr, north korea, cuba, etc or (s)he wouldve explained themselves more clearly like the way u did, sigh, by communism i think its safe to assume they meant state controlled economy, that why east v west germany was brought up...sigh... thats also why the space race was brought up...sigh, and our entire discussion was based on that assumption which proved to be accurate.sigh. rather than dismiss the comment on a technicality, i chose to battle that person on their own grounds...sigh...
