Clear Smear!

I had my first pap smear two weeks ago... and I"m really pleased to say... it was clear! Yippie, now I dont have to think about my cervix for another 2 years !!!! I jumped up and down when I rang for the result

 

That's great news, always a relief to hear! I'm past due for mine. I haven't gone since I had my twins 2 years ago.

 

it hurt like hell having it done!!! she shoved that duck thing up there... I felt like I was being ripped open.

and that scrapy thing... ouch!!!

and then while I was there... on the table she goes... "Ohhh I like your shoes ... whare did you get those?"

 

It hurt that bad? Mine are just a vague annoyance. Did she lube up the speculum before inserting it? They really shouldn't be too painful. Of course, if you were real tense, that could make it more uncomfortable, too.

 

How long after you first have intercourse are you supposed to wait until you get a smear?

 

its supposed to be like 2 years after you first have sex or when you turn 18 whichever comes first

and yeah she lubed it, but it still hurt like hell... it hurts like hell when I put anything up there... no matter what it is

 

Is there a problem you are unaware of?

If you are sexually active, you should get a smear done. Don't wait two years. There are probs that you may have (not saying that you do!) that can only be found out by having an exam. I go every year. It's very important to make sure that you get regular std testing and to make sure you don't have any abnormal cervical cells.

 

^ exactly; either when you first start having sex (not two years after) or when you turn 18.. whichever comes first.

 

It's very important you go every year...I've gone every year since i turned 18 and everythings been clear, except last time it came back abnormal. and i had to go through a VERY comfortable process....

 

no, the recommended smear frequency is every 2 years, unless you have ever returned an abnormal result

 

Hmm...I can understand if you are in a monogamous relationship, but if not, I would not wait that long after having sex to get an exam. It's just not safe.

That reminds me, I'm about due for another one soon.

I'm on the pill, and the Womens Health Unit in my town has you have them done once a year. I don't find it so bad, it doesn't hurt or anything, it's a little awkward.. maybe uncomfortable. I guess you probably just get used to it.

 

Isn't it awkward when they try to make conversation- like complementing your shoes- while they're up there? I mean, yeah, we'd both probably rather be somewhere else, and I guess they're just trying to make converasation, but, you know, when that cold metal duck thing is up there, I'm not so good at small talk.:&

 

I don't mind it. My obgyn and I have kids @ the same age so we always talk about them when I'm getting examined. She also delivered my kids and is their pediatrician, so I'm very comfortable with her.

 

yeah my mum has to go every 6 months, which is why I should really go check myself out!

 

I can see your point. I was just going on what the current medical advice is from docs is all. but yeah, if you wanna be extra careful, 1 every year.
