dumb things people have said to me since i got derads

i live in a town where thers like me and maby 3 outher pople in the town of like 75 000 people with dreads and i was just wondering some of the dumb things people have said or asumed about you. i have been asked is i was going to turn black if i am a rasta and if i just woke up like this and y i dont brush my hair by all the people that dont get it and think im just weird o and my favourit one is when some one is staring at me and walkes in to somthing or is it that lots of old people cross the street and act like im going to steel stuff. i hope all this stuff just dosent hapen to me and i would like to here some of your experiences

 

hehehe, well someone in my class came up to me and ask

"like what is with the bob marley hair?"

to which i replied,
"like what is the the army style short back and sides?"

needless to say, he didn't respond and went back to his work!

But in general my reception from people has been really good, i don't get funny looks of old people, i never have only big smiles and i don't feel like people look sus at me at all. In fact i have more people talk to me since i've been getting my dreads! I get asked randomly in the street if i'm off to any festivals etc. I'm sorry to hear you seem to get a bad rep for it!

 

mostly kids in highschool would make comments like "wash your hair" which was SOOOO HILARIOUS. Other then that I get people asking me how I get my hair like this while making a slightly confused/disgusted/mesmerized face. People constantly ask me if I am a rastafarian or if I like Bob Marley. I used to get annoyed, now I just laugh because I think they funny and dumb because I am clearly not a rastafarian. Women are usually the ones that give me discerning looks, men generally respond pretty nicely to me.

 

usually i get no comments at all.. just the odd lok. When they were young dreads i got a few comments like "howd you do that?" or "you going to shave your head?" etc etc i've had a few "eeeer buy a brush" from drunken types...

one drunken lady lent down to me (i was sitting on the floor at a bus stop) said "what happned to your hair.........oh..... right you got them fings" and wondered off.... i was tempted to reply "err what happned to your face?" .... but .... ive learnt not to mess with drunks.

 

I get bullshit all the time. I don't really like it.

"how do you do that?"
"can I touch them?"
" brush/wash your hair"
"what are like, a hippie?"
"hey, medusa"

I also have gotten stuff thrown at me form cars, and had parents grab their kids and pull them inside when they see me walking down the street.
"whoa, it's like, rasta or something"

 

I have been asked do I take em out every night. How do I wash my hair. I am been called a white ******, which really pisses me off...

So you put goat shit in your hair. That's the only way you can do dreads. You gotta put shit in your hair. I bet it smells.

That's really gross. Are there bugs in it?

But most people are intrigued and fascinated by it. heheh, that I don't mind. I've sat at my desk with my head down while four or five people playing with my hair. That's fun.

 

I don't really get too many comments. And if I do, it's usually positive. People are usually pretty intrigued. I had this one dude signal to me from across a store, and mouth "Are those dreads?" When I shook my head yes, he gave me a big smile...haha.


When I was applying for a job, the manager lady said I was hired but that "Those need to go." I told her it couldn't happen, and she insisted that I could chop them off a little each day to get rid of them. I think she thought they were fake or something...

Besides that, my dad jokes around and calls me a "rusty ferret"...which is supposed to sound like "rastafarian"...haha. I also have my high-maintenance cousin ask me "Don't you just want to brush your hair?" to which I just reply "Why? It's easier not to"...lol.

My sister's friend's father told me I was disgusting and that there are bugs probably crawling in my hair and that I need to cut them off.

Yeah, so besides that, I don't really get any nasty remarks...just a bunch of odd stares, which doesn't bother me.

 

yea i get a lot from my family saying that they hate it and your ganna have to shave your head and since ur a girl its soooo terrible, i just say... k haha and i've had a lot of how did u do that, and i dread ur dreads was a good one. I just i dont care if u dont like em haha
also i have ahd people who love them and think they are the coolest thing ever,
people also say like you dirty hippie and stuff but i take showers! haha I LOVE MY DREADS AND NOTHING YOU SAY CAN MAKE ME TAKE EM OUT!! HAHA

 

thanks for all the replies it makes it better knowing im not the onely one who get the coments and im not saying i dont get lots of good coments to i think i problay get more good than bad but some of the bad one are just so funny. the bigest question i problay get is can i touch them everone want to touch them or smell them
