i guess got back from the 6:10pm show and today was the 1st day it came out, and i REALLY loved it. i wanted to be the 1st to do a thread for WOW (and wow is right). im pretty sure people may dislike some things about it, but i doubt theres much thats bad about this movie. it was the 1st moive ive seen in a long time that actually scared me and it was an alien movie that did justice to actual believers and presented extraterrestuals in a tasteful way. i didnt expect to see any aliens in this movie, or even to the the ships so early into the movie, because not many movies can to it well, but this movie really did. it ended nice, and it was pretty suspenceful too.
    what did you think??

I'm boycotting both Cruise and Spielberg, they are both artless pricks

i was hoping it wouldn't be good, butsounds like it may be a moneymaker, unfortunately

Because one makes formulaic cheesy films, and the other one is a an arrogant scientologist who plays the same roles over and over again.

I didn't think War of the Worlds was goin to be a good movie because A) Alien movies can be pretty lame & B) Tom Cruise is past his prime

BUT, I went with my boyfriend and I was surprised because I thought the movie was great!!! I was scared like 3/4 of the entire movie. My boyfriend joked afterwards about how I was cutting off the circulation in his arm from holding it so tight. lol

The ending kind of disappointed me, though. I think there was too much of a buildup the entire movie for it to end so quickly. Two thumbs up, though!! Definately worth spending the money to go see it.

Remember, arrogant people, especially short arrogant people, often have an inner intensity that projects an incredible presence on screen.

His presence on screen is like watching a live fire-cracker; your expecting his head to pop its top at any second.

That persona, just as it is, is too valuable to Hollywood.
So I don't think it will change much until he gets older.

Concider the film 'Magnolia'; a good example of where his intensity is put to good use.

Or, look how Kubric sublely subdued his intensity in 'Eyes Wide Shut', yet it was always there, winding, tighter and tighter.

We're not talking about the versitility of an Anthony Hopkins, we're talking about a guy who possesses a certain something that Hollywood knows how to exploit.

I'm not saying he hasn't done anything I've liked.

I would just love to see those guys fail. :D

I thought the ending sucked--it was very cliche, and theres no reason the son should have lived. But i like the movie, and i liked how they tied the beginning to the end (the zooming in/out of the microorganisms)

Quentin Tarantino, art? HA, as much as I love his films they are definatley not art, just an over indulgent nerd.

I saw War of the Worlds yesterday, I liked it a lot! There's been two good Hollywood blockbusters this year which I've enjoyed, which is War of the Worlds and Batman Begins.

i was watching two people on a cable access program [i dont know why, maybe i was bored or something] and somehow this guy compared this movie to "Signs" by Shamalyan...

i hanvet seen this, but i dont think that a movie that has a point [signs] and a summer blockbuster [War of the Worlds] can be compared IMO

"Because one makes formulaic cheesy films, and the other one is a an arrogant scientologist who plays the same roles over and over again."

LMAO^ if i had thought that before i wouldnt seen it, lol, so true...

But i did see it and thought it wasnt that bad, on a scale of 10 i give it a 7.4. Cruises acting got on my nerves big time, like seriously when the worlds about to end i think u might show ur kids a little bit more compassion than he did. There was few times in the movie i didnt want to punch him in the face for being a smart ass all the time. But the whole idea of martians burrying robots underneath our cities a long time before we were even hear is pretty creapy...

The best part IMO was when evenone thought they could relax and hop on the ferry... but then the trees started moving.

Buuuuttt.... how come the aliens didnt die from bacteria the first time they came to earth to burry the robot ships? i think they wouldve taken into account whats floating around in the air... and why at the end of the movie did they turn off their force fields? breathing bacteria should have nothing to do with how a machine works...

right, as worthless as my opinion is, and doubtfully anyone will read or comment on this

    but...

i havent seen this film yet, but im really rather uneasy about going to see it, for one good reason. For anyone who has read the accual book, they'll know its a very plain uppity english book, much like "oooh aliens are attacking but we're going to be jolly polite and have crumpets on the lawn" and for the most part, i think this is the charm of war of the worlds, aliens are envading england and its jolly scientifically interesting what what etc

and to be honest, i've just got this horrible feeling from watching the trailer that speilberg and cruise will just americanise and hollywoodise the story line overly, so it'll be full of guns explosions and action, which afterall isnt what the book was about frankly.

anyway thats all i wanted to comment
