I turned 18 back in April and have thought nonstop about getting a tattoo. I'm very dull to pain so that doesn't bother me at all. I just tend to build up a lot of anxiety before I do things like this. Like when I got my tongue peirced, I knew it wouldn't hurt, and it didn't, but i nearly jumped out of the piercing stool when it was about to happen. I just want either a tribal band around my left bicept or maybe something on my shoulderblade. Any suggestions. I'm a total newbie at this stuff so any criticism will be greatly appriciated.:D

If you're any good at drawing and want something a little different, then you could design it yourself. I designed my tattoo by myself and I love it because its so personal. If you use a search engine for tattoo designs there are a couple of websites that are fantastic, they literally have hundreds of galleries of tattoo designs that you can print out and take to the artist.

^^^I kinda agree. Get e design that is totally different and unique to you. You'll be much happier. You can even just go to an artist with a bunch of indeas and have him draw something, but, please, avoid just getting some flash.

As far as the nevousness. What!, you're nervous about a needle stabbing your skin 300 times a minute? Anxiety is only natural. The pain isn't truly that bad. My best advice is feel comfortable with your artist, design, and shop. If you are confident in their abilities and the design you chose, you'll minimize fear.

    Peace

well...ya i think u shud get something either you draw up...or at least have yer own idea. i mean i had an idea of what i wanted...and the tattoo artist dude just drew my 'idea' and i liked it so i was like 'ok do it!'
and i think it wud hurt more if u are nervous about it. like i wasnt even nervous, i was just ready so it didnt really hurt. plus u get numb after a while anywyas. maybe some valium, vickidin and maybe a few shots could help ease the pain. haha but dont drink TOOO much before cuz ull prolly bleed more . i mean i drank some before i got my tattoo...but like i was pretty sober wen i got it done tho.
i say do whatever u want but jus DO IT when ya know what ya want!

My best advice is be patient, and don't chose something out of a book. I did that when i was 18 and hyper to get one. I don't mind it so much, but i do wish i would have waited, because i put it in a spot (lower back...like every other girl out there) where i now want a truely meaningful tattoo. but I'm eventually going to get the one i really want incorporated around it or something.
