Well now. All of you who thought back in November '04 that it wouldn't make a difference whether Bush or Kerry was elected, you are about to find out how wrong you were. Sandra Day O'Conner has announced she will retire from the Supreme Court. This will give Bush the opening he and cronies have been waiting for - to put a homophobic, misogynistic, xenophobic, bible-thumping, right-wing nutcase on the bench - for life. And don't anyone think that Bill Frist will not use the nuclear option to get this appointment through. Hope yur happy.:$ http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/8430976/
Well, considering that the liberal judges just gave corporations the right to take your land.... are we that much worse off?
I'm looking forward to the fight. The true ideological divisions between the liberals and conversatives will be revealed more completely during the confirmation hearing and Senate debates than a month of opinion columns and talk radio. Nothing reveals a persons character than a person under duress. It will be very interesting to see how the loosing side behaves as the tide goes against them. I think the way each side of the isle conducts itself and the way they explain what they believe, could influence the Congressional elections in 2006. A referendum of Political ideology, Liberal v. Conservitism.
I'm so tired of the liberal vs. conservative thing. Why do people want more of it? Things have gotten so ideologically polarized in the U.S. that almost nothing constructive gets done anymore. .
Yawn. In the U.S.A. of today it's all about "me, me, me." It's instant gratification for anyone. You can have an abortion on demand, drugs on demand (so long as you go to the right festivals), and sex on demand (law enforcement really hasn't done a lot about escort services, especially over the internet). There are plenty of gay clubs out there, too. What else do you fanatical liberals want? I really don't see the Christian Right as much of a threat, because science has progressed to the point where most rational individuals can see they are a sad joke trying to cling to a past no longer possible to have. Besides, Bush can't just choose anyone he wants to replace O'Connor. Bipartisan deliberations are going to be involved, and the Democrats will have some say in the process.
Maynbe the new one will help crack down on wanker LSD heads. That would be funny, I would have a big laugh at your expense. It's sure to be another Christian Southerner, as that seems to be a prerequisite to make it government these days...maybe thet'll crack down on your beloved festivals and rainbow gatherings too.
I don't see what constitutional issues would be involved with LSD. The one I see who could really crack down on LSD is someone like Bush, who could boost the budget for the Drug Enforcement Administration and target certain venues. From what I can tell Bush has not been able to do a whole lot about drugs. The "drug war" has been a failure from the beginning. He's got enough problems controlling the amount of heroin, cocaine, ecstasy, and marijuana entering the U.S.
Don't think its not importnat who gets nominated...its one of the moost powerful positions in the country. I was using an extreme example, but you never know who's going to get on there, and what their agenda will be. Don't forget that there is going to be another spot open when Renquist retires....likelky within the year, definitely within this presidential term
Good point. If the founders of the nation were around today, they'd be shocked at just how big the government has gotten and especially over how much the values of the nation have changed.
John Roberts. Nope, it isn't going to be pretty. Against Roe v. Wade, against environmental regulation, and pro business. About what one could figure from Bush. This guy isn't close to moderate.
