Anyone who follows a religion closely should sit back and think for a second. Why do you believe what you believe? For most of you the answer will be "That's what I've been taught since I was a kid". Or "I just do." Niether of these is a good reason. I was brought up as a Christian. But I realized that if I was born to a Chinese family in China, I'd probably be a Buddist. I'd be the same person but would believe in something completely different than what I do now just because of my environment. And I guess "I wouldn't go to heaven cause I didn't accept Jesus as my savior..." Doesn't make sence to me. And how can anybody say that one religion is right and one is wrong? How can Christians say that if somebody doesn't believe in Jesus, then they will not go to heaven? And Catholics believe if you are not baptized you will not go to heaven. I think statements like those completely undermine the real meaning of what God, Buddah, Allah, or whatever.. The whole idea is to be peacefull and to cause the least amount of harm possible to others. I just can't believe that a person who lives his/her life making others happy, would go to hell (if their is one) just because they are not baptized or do not worship the right name. What is there for us to believe anyway? We are humans. Does somebody actually expect us to believe in a book that was written thousands of years ago that has magical stories in it? If you believe those stories, how come you don't believe the magical stories in other religious books, or even dragons for that matter? It's tough for me to believe a friend when he tells me something wierd. How am I supposed to believe in a book that reads like a disney movie that has been passed down through a corrupt church for thousands of years? Any higher being must understand that it's tough to believe in stories that have been passed down for that long. And how could I believe in a church whose main goal is to convert as many people as possible? Shouldn't their goal be to show others how to live peacefully together? Instead of saying "we are right and they are wrong and therefor damned..." You can take a kid when he is born and "control his mind" and make him belive that my guitar is a god. Is that kid going to go to hell? Is it his fault that he wasn't brought up to accept that someone who died two thousand years ago is his savior? But anyway… I've come to the conclusion that I'm done with religion. My new philosophy is to live peacfully and "Think Like a Hippy." Any time I get mad, I just say to myself, "Think like a hippy", and honesly it calms me down. I'm just don't understand religion anymore, so I can't do it. But I do still believe in a higher being that gave us what we have. I however do not believe we were put here to worship it. I am definitely thankful, bu why would they put us here in the first place if it was only to "Spread the Word"? Doesn't make sence to me. Just be peacefull, make others happy, and think like a hippy. If you do that, then nobody can judge you in a wrong way. -sorry for the long book

I find the term retard really offensive, primarley because its been used as an insult of people with learning difficulties. i don't quite know what was said in the oriniginal message to provoke such a strong response. its a shame that this thread couldn't have been used for an intelligent discussion instead of childish name calling. i've read both OSF and Jesus's opinions and arguments relating to "religion", if thats what I could ultimately call it, but before i give my view i would just like to make it clear that i do not want to be sworn at or be attacked alright. I think that the subject at hand is a very delicate one and a daebate which has lasted decades. I do not want to generalise so i can only speak of my own experience. First off i am a believer,and i do find fault with how the different religions kind of compete for "the better faith". fact is , I believe that whether we are practicing any religion, be it Christianity, Islam, Buddaism our main priority is to put our "creator" first instead of ourselves. By doing this we will live lives that are more fulfilling and selfless and we wont spend so much of our time worried about what we want,what we feel, what we have to do. I'm sure that everyone wants to be happy and by criticising, mocking and ridiculing eachother and one another's religions we wont be happy and our time will be spent rather "stupidly"(if you catch my drift.) So please dont ATTACK ME.The reason for this email is just to kind of shed light on the idea that "someone' had to create us and for this divine being we should be grateful and therefore show this by placing our creator before ourselves in every decision or deed we do.
