Should prostitution be legalized?

Is it okay to pay for sex?

Imagine if you're handicapped or otherwise have some flaw that prevents you from having a relationship or sex, is it then okay to pay for sex?

Yes, it would cut down on rape...

 

As long as there are both male and female prostitutes.

 

I think it should be legalized and taxed. Seriously... set up brothels, provide regular STD cheques, condoms and tax it. That way the cops can focus on child prostitution, which is a huge problem here. Plus, keeping it in brothels would cut down on the number of prostitutes being raped, beaten and murdered in the streets. fuck, why not unionize it too! Ok, maybe that's a little much, but I want some brothels dammit.

Welcome to nevada, it pays for schools in storey county, it's of course run on a county by county basis, unfortunatly very few laws protect prostitutes because in most counties they're required to be classed as independant contractors which means that the brothel can set whatever terms it pleases and they have to just take it or practice elsewhere and be arrested.....


it works out pretty well, except in humboldt county where there some regulations that are designed to allow brothels to exist but make it near impossible for them to squeak by, sex crime rates are lower in nevada counties with legal prostitution despite nevada being the "most dangerous" state of the union......

 

My first thought was free love, but after reading some of the other posts, I thought about it for a while and decided it might not be such a bad Idea. If the legalized it, they would have to monitor it, which could cut down on STD's. The problem with that is the fact that many prostitutes will do numerous clients every day (no pun intended). If they caught a desease, it could be spread to quite a few people before it is caught.

 

This might mean more women and girls forced in to prostitution,enough wouldn't be done to help them, i'm against it.

 

If it was legal, more women and girls would volunteer for this job, there probably wouldn't be a need for force.

 

most women wouldn't want to do a job for sex drive, but for the money. we shouldn't teach people that prostitution is right and direct them to another way of life. or am i talking bullshit?

 

Also, it would take a chunk out of the gangs and/or the "pimps". Without drugs and prostitution, gangs have trouble existing.

most STD's including HIV take some time to propogate in the system, if proper precautions were taken then that would not be a big worry

and if there were risk people could be put on anti-retro-virals for the worst diseases and helped if there were a system in place

there is in nevada, but most other places in the world aren't so strict on such things

however I do reiterate the incredible weak point in our laws of workers rights for prostitutes....

i think it should be legal, if it was set up properly though. i dont think people would owrk in the trade for the sex but for the money, i bloody would. why not get paid for something natural and fun?

The way I look at it is that you're never going to stop the sex trade. It's one of man primal urges and drives. So why not make it safer for the prostitutes? Tax it, move it out of the black market...

 

Making it legal would help prevent forced and underage prostitution as sex worker would work openly rather than hidden away. Prostituion is legal in many area and tolerated in others and it makes things much safer for sex workers. I don't personally think prostitution is 'ok' but I do think it should be legal.

 

yes, it should be legalized and regulated, its not my thing, but i think its pretty rediculous that in this day and age its still illegal. and DarkSecret, Green was saying that if its legalized then gangs would have one less 'thing' to sell and make money off of. thus legalizing it would reduce crime and not just in the sense that no one would be geting arrested for being a john or renting out her body.
