I HAVE A PITBULL NAMED QUEENIE SHE IS A VERY GOOD DOG BUT SHE CONSTINTLY KEEPS ON SCRATCHING HERSELF BUT MY STEP DAD CHECKED HER BUT SHE DONT HAVE FLEAS EVEN ONE TIME SHE SCRATCHED HERSELF SO BAD SHE STARTED TO BLEED! CAN YOU HELP ME? GABRIELLE
ok cool it can be a bit of a pain to find out why your dog is scratching. first of all is she chewing her feet as well? if she is it might she has allergies, is she spinning round on her bum and kind of pulling her mum along the floor? if she is doing that it could be her anal galnds are full. if it is her glands then go to your vet and they will show you how to empty them which is easy and painless. but by what you have said it seems more like a allergy, my dog has them he is allergic to everything if she is chewing her paws write back and i will give you a few suggestions, xxx
this is gabrielle, yes that is where she always bites and scratches i would love it if u would send me the suggestions.she also bites her paws is that bad
ok cool it does sound like a allergys the best thing you can do really is take her to the vets and they will give her a steroid injection, they will suggest things like dont use the stuff people put on carpets then hoover up. her food is a main part of allergys there is a food brand out called james wellbeloved, it has no wheat, milk, additives, colours, it is basically lamb and rice or chicken and rice, if she is have allergies you should feed her that and only that, it does mean no treats no other food nothing like licking plates etc. you can also get some anti - itch spray but get it from a vet as there are some which achally make dogs itch!!!! if you cant afford to take her to the vets go to a chemist and buy some perytin its a anti allergy thing, you can use it with dogs as well but only start on one once a day, the maxium dose for that is 4 per day but it will make her drosey. tea tree shampoo works well as well. if i think up any more tips for ou i will let you know, good luck xxx
thank you very much i appriciate it ohh and i also write poems can u please go to poetry and read pitch black
I agree, it's probably allergies. I wouldn't try tea tree oil though, it very commonly causes paralysis and seizures. I also wouldn't go with the steriods (cortisone). It totally screws with the hormones and usually makes the dog very overweight with greasy fur. Prednisone is a better choice, but it can cause blatter problems. I would go with natural alternatives before resorting to anything else. Try to find a holistic vet in your area -- they can help you with that. The allergies are most likely caused by food. What kind of food does she eat? I recommend a RAW diet, but for those who don't have the time or patience, I recommend Innova EVO (your dog must be full grown to eat EVO however). I wouldn't use James Wellbeloved personally -- the main ingredient is rice in every formula. Personally I'm a prey-model diet fan myself -- dogs don't eat grains in the wild. They are carnivores. Grains are the #1 cause of allergies. Either way, get a vet to do a skin sample for you. It could be parasites. If it is allergies, get the vet to do an environmental allergy test, and if it is the food, rule out the cause with an elimination diet plan. You may also want to consider your dog having an obsessive compulsion. Good luck!
