I actually found a old book on sewing at my grandmothers house and there was a sewing pattern in it on how to make a bandana or scarf halter top. I do not have the book with me and cannot find where i wrote the directions so im kinda gonna go off the top of my head.
The materials you need it 1 bandana or scarf, thread, and 3 pieces of string/cording/ribbon ect, (lining is optional). The strings are going to be used as ties. 2 goes aound your back from your side and the other goes around your neck.
First you need to take the square bandana and turn it so that it is a diamond shape. Basically, all you need to do is sew the 2 strings on the 2 side corners that will be wrapped around you, (this is on the inside of the top). You wil then have one string fom each side to tie. Around the neck you will fold the top down to form a casing so the string can slide through. To form casing you will need to fold down top and sew a horizontal line across the tip on corner to the fabric. Once casing is formed you will slid string through and tie around neck. You can also put a linin in to hide the strings sewin that are sewn in.
Another was to do the side strings is make them into casings as well. But on these you will sew a vertical line on the tip of the corner to the fabric. Then you will slide the string through and have 2 strings to tie in the back. Its quite simple to do. I hope this info helped, if i can find the picture i made of it i will send it which might help a little more. Sorry if its kinda hard to read, im not very good at explaining things.
