Assem Jihad told AFP that 300 acts of sabotage had been committed against Iraqi oil installations between June 2003, when Iraq resumed exports, and May 31. Seventy acts of sabotage took place in the first five months of 2005. Current Iraqi production stands at more than 2 mln barrels per day, mostly from fields in southern Iraq, of which 1.5 mln bpd is exported, he said. There are still 11 significant fields in the south that would be put to tender, he added, which could add another 3 mln bpd to the total output. In all, Iraq hopes to raise output up to 6 mln bpd, but to reach that goal it would need between 15-25 bln usd in investment, he said. In its latest budget, the Iraqi government has set aside 3 bln usd for oil sector investment, which would be drawn from oil exports, former oil minister Tamir Abbas Ghadban said last Wednesday in Istanbul. http://icasualties.org/oif/
It makes no fucking sense for an insurgent to attack a pipeline, that sure the hell isn't going to make us get out faster and it is just straining thier economy.
They are tired of us stealing their oil. Just the facts. http://www.wkrc.com/news/world/story.aspx?content_id=93257A37-957B-489B-A274-B5E60243AA5F Official says Iraq has lost billions due to oil facilities damage, LAST UPDATE: 7/4/2005 6:37:07 AM BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) - An Iraqi official says his country has lost more than eleven (b) billion dollars since it resumed petroleum exports following the U-S-led invasion. The Iraqi oil ministry spokesman blames the losses on damage to oil facilities and lost exports. He tells Dow Jones Newswires there have been 300 acts of sabotage against Iraqi oil installations -- including 70 in the first five months of this year. The official says the sabotage is keeping oil fields in northern Iraq from exporting around 400-thousand barrels a day.
