This is a thread for all the tobacco smokers (like myself) out there.

Why oh why do we do it? We do we pay big multinational corporations to kill us? Why, as people who care about the environment, do we smoke ciggeretes? Ciggerette butts take god only knows how many years to break down, ended up in oceans, forests are chopped down to grow tobacco.

I hate it. I hate the fact that through my own stupidity I am addicted to a product that is not only killing me, but sending money to huge tobacco corporations.

I spend $40 a week on sticks of tobacco and paper, just to burn them and inhale the smoke. I could feed a starving family for a month with that.

Anyone else want to start a quit club with me??

Not to mention it fucken stinks.

Yep....I hear ya. What I don't get is the fact that so many kids start smoking before they are even old enough to buy them. I mean when I started smoking, a pack of cigs cost @ 1.15...and now I have seen them priced at amounts over 5.00...Why in the world would a 15 year old start smoking when by the time they were 18 cigs may very well be 10+ dollars a pack??

I would GLADLY make this trade: make cigarettes illegal, make marijuana legal.....I mean, cigarettes don't even give you a buzz. They just drain your wallet and fuck up your lungs....pot does the same thing, but WITH a buzz!!!

Everyone has an addiction, I consider myself lucky to only have a cigarette addiction. Unlike those with shopping, coffee, drug addictions etc. It helps me get through the work day, we all need something to get us through ya know?

Yeh., everyone funds big companies at some point. I try to aviod buying coke and nestle but that often involves buying something from another big company.

regardless, she's just trying to quit and stop funding those multinationals, i think telling her she's gonna fuck up elsewhere anyway is hardly gonna help. I dont smoke myself, but you go, and do your fucking bestm im with you on that one.

I agree with everything you said . I to am a smoker and hope that someday I will quit. The reality of it is it is an addicting legal habit. Ask an alcoholic why it is so hard to stop drinking. Its legal and its everywhere you go. I'm not saying it shouldn't be legal, don't get me wrong. I just hope that future children of the world grow to understand the extreme consequences that smoking cigerettes causes and once your hooked how difficult it is to quit. I would love to start a club with you. Peace

actually the Indians used tobacco as a sacrament and it does get you very buzzed it just that cigarette smokers develop a tolerance to it..tobacco is not bad but the cigarettes that the major industry supplies are they are nowhere near all tobacco...quit buying the major brands or roll your own and you can decrease or elimate dependance.it all about choice...I smoked cigarettes for over 20 years got sick of em and quit

ive quit so many times over the years ive lost count. the longest i stopped for was 13 months, when i was pregnant with my daughter and breast feeding her. but something will happen and i'll start again. it pisses me off no end and i'd love to quit for good. i only smoke outside as my little girl has asthma, but i'll still go out into the rain to light up. its so pointless though, why do i bother.

personally i don't think smoking really makes u cool at all, if u thought someone was a twat and then they instantly started smoking you wouldn't exaclty go...omg he smokes, how cool is he!? Though thats my opinion on things :)

I have a love-hate relationship with cigarettes. lol. I don't want to quit smoking, because I like the taste, I like the calming process of it all... if I'm stressed, full, tired whatever, I light up and feel relaxed, calm. At the same time, I hate how much I spend a week on the fucking things, and I hate how it's the one thing I do that I can say is extremely unhealthy.

meh, but whatever...whenever im ready to quit i will...

i have smoked on and off for the past five years, but i think i finally am going to quit this week. I got my wisdom teeth taken out yesterday, and your not supposed to use any tobbaco products for a week, due to infection, and all that. So once i get past the first week, i might as well just keep going. I realized that i don't really need them, its just when i see other people smoking them, or after a long day at work i want one. But i will control these urges..hopefully.

I don’t know what it’s like in the U.S, but in Canada when you shell out the almost $9 a pack (Depending where you guy), a lot of that money is for government taxes.

I thought someone might find this interesting.

Current tax rates (effective from January 19, 2005)

    11.725¢ per cigarette/cigarette stick
$1.76 per pack of 15 cigarettes
$2.35 per pack of 20 cigarettes
$2.93 per pack of 25 cigarettes
$23.45 per carton of 200 cigarettes
11.725¢ per gram or part gram of cut tobacco
