Why don't you go down to the nearest animal shelter instead and give one of them a second chance at life? Not a bash; just a suggestion.:)

Who knows - they might even have a pug!;)

i would love to goto a shelter... BUT..... I really want to show my next dog. the only way I would be able to do that is if i have all the registration and pedigrees for him.. Also he has to be a purebred to be shown....

Plus i want to meet his parents and brothers/sisters ;).

Ohhhhh...a pudder!!! I love pugs...It was between a shih tzu and a pug for me...I chose a shih tzu because they don't tend to shed (but have to be brushed religiously every day), but pugs have wonderful, sweet personalities too. Good luck with your little one...and do let us (me, at least!) know how it goes!!

I love pugs....they tend to have a lot of nasal problems because of the way they were bred to have their face all smashed in like that....every time I look at one I feel so bad for them because of that. But I think they are just the cutest little things and supposedly a very "clownish" breed, so they will keep you laughing. Be sure to post pics when you get him or her![IMG]

I don't think your reasons for not going to a shelter are very valid. What is the point of showing a dog? So people can see that you spent an insane amount of money on a purebred that eats and shits just like a mutt? Or are you wanting to show your dog because you win money? Either way, its exploiting an animal that has no interest in "being shown". What ever happened to having a pet for friendship and love? Nowadays, its all about the looks and breed.

Let me guess, you want a female also so you can breed her ragged and make even more money off of purebred puppies that will most likely end up in shelters anyways....

I know you are goin to do what you want anyways, just offering a different point of view.

If you get a full bred dog, then some other dog that you could have adopted at a shelter will not get adopted which means more overpopulation at the shelter and someone will die. I'm sorry to go off on you, but I volunteer at a shelter and it pisses me off how some people think about these things. If people could only see what goes on at the shelter, no person with a heart could turn down a dog from there. There are so many dogs that die that don't have to. A dog doesn't need to be in a show. A dog needs to be loved and needs to love you... and any dog no matter what kind has those needs. Don't kill a shelter dog by buying a pure bred one.

Many of my friends show, and I plan on showing -- you do not always pay an insane amount of money for a purebred dog. I know someone who got a dog from a puppy mill that turned out to be a good show dog. Showing is not about winning money or "exploiting," it's a hobby and it's about having fun. How many people do you know that can say they travel around the country with their dogs, socialising their dogs, meeting new people, buying dog products they can't possibly find where they live, entering raffles, meeting others that have the same breed....It's all about fun, and the dogs LOVE it. A dog can't do well in a show unless the dog is enjoying oneself. When a dog doesn't enjoy itself, it's show career simply ends. It's as easy as that.

The shelters here are NO-KILL, therefore she wouldn't be saving a life. There is a huge waiting list on the dogs in this province -- it's practically impossible to get one as it is.

I can see the reason for some folks wanting to go to the rescue shelter to get a dog, and that reason is very valid, but there are VERY valid reasons for getting a purebred dog also...I have gone over my reasons in other threads, and will not go over it again...while I respect the opinions of those that go to the shelter to get a pet (and, I hav done so myself, with cats, and will likely continue in the future), I frankly get tired of the "guilting" that goes on when someone posts that they feel a person wanting to get a purebred dog should instead go to a shelter. I got a purebred shih tzu for very good reason (see the thread titled something like "is it wrong to buy/sell pets" if you're curious), and I'm sure others that get purebreds have their good reasons. As I said, I respect the opinions of others that disagree, but I resent the "Guilting" that goes on regarding this issue. 'Nuff said.

First of all, are you insane woman??
I would never breed dogs, inless i was rich ahah.. because it takes alot of time, and money out of your life to raise, show, take to the vet, care, love, and breed puppies of any breed..
As a matter of fact, I am NOT getting a FEMALE. I am getting a male dog because I already own a female siberian husky (spayed) and she tends to be more agressive to other female dogs...

I cant believe how much you just flammed me, and for not one good reason. I know several AWESOME dog owners who do conformation showing, and their dogs arnt loved any less or more then the dogs that they do not show..

o' and alot of reputable breeders dont charge an insane amout of money for thier purebred pups. Good breeders dont even make much of a profit from breeding if any... try not to preach about things you dont understand k :)

Actually if i was to adopt from anywhere it would be from a breed specific rescue orginization because they are NO kill rescues, unlike the SPCA...
I have volenteered at the local shelter and I would NEVER adopt a dog from them just because they are neglected.. If I get a pup from a breeder I will know what to expect from the personality of the parents and siblings, I will get all the health certifications of parents and my pup.. Along with many other benefits.

I guess I have killed three shelter dogs already, since I own three purebreds?? thats the most retarded statement i have read here... How is it my fault shelters are underfunded and ignorant dog owners/breeders are an abundance everywhere.
