I don't know if I've ever really seen this. I''ve been playing with my 4 month old kitten Blues tonight and he's gotten so worked up he's panting like a dog. As soon as he started doing so, I stopped playing the game with him, I'm just rather suprised by it. I know that it must be the only way for a cat to get cool much like a dog as they don't sweat, but still suprises me some. Don't know if I've ever seen it before and I always had cats while growing up.
My cat, BJ, will pant, but only if he has been playing fetch super hard for an extended period of time.
It's definately not a problem unless it's all the time. Cats love the heat, but if it's too much then i guess they'll just have to pant like dogs! Sunny xxx
yes cat's pant. Yes it's normal. Your only cause for concern would be if they have a wheezing sound. Could be asthma...and yup, cats can have asthma
The first time I ever saw a cat pant was with my last cat and I actually thought something was wrong with him and freaked out a little bit....hehe. But yeah, its normal. My cat does it all the time. For some reason though I think it looks weird when cats pant.....probably because I just relate that to dogs so much.
cats can smell through their tongues like snakes... they have a jacobsin's organ thing...and it looks like their panting when they open their mouths and smell stuff... so i don't know if that's what you guys are talking about or if cats really do pant
The one time I saw a cat panting is when we first purchased one of those laser pointers for him. He was running around so much chasing it that he started panting....it kinda surprised me so we stopped and let him rest. I didnt even know cats did that!
