If you can you should definitely check this fest out. Lots of good roots music~~ beautiful atmosphere/camping in the woods (yay!) ~~ www.greatblueheron.com I'm soo excited because this year I get to camp with the musicians and get a backstage pass/free food and all that fun stuff ;) It's gonna be a wonderful experience. I'm headed up with a fellow mama in her bright red vw vanagon w/ our two youngin's so keep an eye out for us :) Keep in mind that it's a great event for families (for all you folks with kids ;) )~~ Oh yeah it's in Sherman, NY (not too far from Erie, PA) and it costs $65 ~camping included... also it starts July 8th. Hope to see some of y'all there :)

Hey Amber, i'm hoping to head to this festival this weekend with my two kids! My son has a baseball tournament in jamestown, and we figured rather than stay in a hotel or another campground, we'd try to stay here, so we could have some fun between games. However, i'm concerned about being able to get in/out of the venue for his games. What's the parking/ camping situation like? Is there camping by your car, or is it carry-in? Is there "Day Only" parking that we could possibly use to facilitate having to leave a few times? Also, it says there is a nice sandy pond for swimming... my kids are really into that. Can you tell us anything else we might like to know? Really looking forward to it!

OMG... you people know about this fest?!

    wow!

I thought I was the only one here from western NY!

anyway, I hate to say it, but in the past 3 years this festival has gotten a little crappy. The prices have gone up, but why? No bigger bands are playing.

Not that it isn't good music. GREAT MUSIC!! but I am not pyaing that much when 4-5 years ago tickets were almost $30 less!!

plus, ugh... Jamestown is a really big shithole. And the heron has become the "big party" for everyone. I love to see people get into festivals, but there are so many wanna be ghetto kids from jamestown that ruin it completely.

I've been to so many great festivals around the country and I know there's kids like that everywhere, but the vibe of the Heron has really gone down.

If you're going, I suggest camping near the families.

I wish a warm and happy festival to all of you who do go! I hope you have a wonderful time and can jam out to the tunes. ;)

Well....I would have to say that I have gone to blue heron now for 6 yrs... I have loved it. The first few years I went, i learned all about being a hippy and how to put dreads in my hair. I love to camp in the woods, there are so many spots....whether you want a secluded one or one off a main path.
As for getting in and out of the festival....it wouldn't be a problem. You can camp next to ur site...its a little more expensive, but your car is right next to your tent, or you can walk back into the woods to camp (which is cheaper) and park in the field. Either way....your not parked in!!! and you can come back in too after leaving.....
As far as the vibe..... I would have to say that in the beginning years of my going here...they were the best. It was a true positive vibe experience...smiles everywhere and beautiful drumming and other things.... Now it has changed a bit, a little more of a mix of people, but if you look hard enough.. You can find happy nirvana.... Their are still hippies there....and it is on beautiful land!!! With open areas.... An outdoor amphitheater with music all day long with then music all night long in the dance tent.... All grass roots and happy.... Also... Lots of stuff for children to do... There is a giant childrens tent for art activities and games for them all day.... Also lots of ponds and hidden trails with more ponds all around. You can't get bored here!!! Vendors.... Great food!!! Lots of different options....plus lots of drums for sale and clothes and other stuff!!! Last year or the year before they started having 2 cops or so at the event. That turned a lot of the hard core drugs that were in the woods to not come back.
If you have any questions on blue heron...ask me...I know a lot about it!!! I think its a fun place! And great for families.... Fun campfire drumming !!!!
    Peace

Well I just got back from the Heron and I had a great weekend :) Nothing but positive. All festivals nowadays are raising prices and getting more of a mix of people (which is kinda rough but oh well, that's how it goes) Ahhh I met this beautiful person there and I'm a bit heartsick at the moment because I didn't get to know him :( and now have no way of getting touch with him~~(hopefully I'll see him at another NY fest this summer...) I stayed up dancing till the sun came up on saturday in the tent with with a wonderful Cajun band, The Red Stick Ramblers.... some other bands that stood out to me were Paridigm, Entrain, and The Hix, also the Hickory Project (they're my hometown band) Swimming in the pond was well welcomed by me~~water definitely felt great after basking in the hot sun... Well hopefully y'all had a fun time if you went, I know I did and I'll be back again next year~~and *fingers crossed* I'll be blowing bubbles with a certain someone again :)

How sweet, Amber! Sending out some sweet reunion vibes for you and your bubble-boy! Love will always overcome tangible things like time and space, so hold onto hope! I also really enjoyed swimming in the pond. It was a luxury compared to many other festivals. I found the people to be exceedingly kind, and the venue was beautiful. Very nice festival... definitely returning next yr!

Thanks Aquamarine :) I'm truly hoping that the universe can bring me into his presence again~~ I hardly talked to him or anything, I just got this weird deja vu vibe when I met him and felt like I've known him before... and now I can't stop thinking about him...ahhhh I'm totally kicking myself for not speaking up when I had the chance...Perhaps he'll at least be there next year...well in the mean time if'n any of ya happen to run across a boy named Spencer with a scar on the upper corner of his mouth point him this way... :p
Where are you from anyways Aquamarine? It seems we're hittin up some of the same fests so perhaps we live somewhat close by :) Maybe we can meet at one ~Ohh... and if I can figure out how to I'll try and post some pics from the festival sometime soon~~

Sounds good! I may or may not bring my kids, i haven't decided yet. By the looks of things, you really need to get there tues/wed to get in line in order to get a good camping spot! That's really not do-able for me at this point. I haven't figured out exactly what i'm doing yet, but one way or another, let's figure out a way to meet up! :)

I hear ya~~ I won't be able to get up there till Thursday night, My friend said that folks that live by the fairgrounds let people camp in their yards though, and there's always the national forest and like you said buttermilk/taughannock (i think I butchered that one :p) So I'll make do somehow. But I am thinking bout leaving my lil' one with his grandparents. I'm kinda broke/camp-stoveless/and not sure about my set up up there so I'd feel alot better rushing into it myself I think, I can manage whatever but I like my son to have a comfortable set up ya know?
