I went for a meal with a bunch of friends last night, and afterwards we decided to go for a drink at a local bar, King John's Tavern; this is (or was) one of my favourite places in town, because it's clean, the drinks are cheap and they don't play horrible rave music very loudly. Anyways, onto the point. I'm 19 but rarely carry ID because I literally never get asked for it anywhere; and I'd been drinking at King John's for about 2 years without ever being asked to prove my age. So last night, I go in with my friends and ask for a pint of Guinness, and this new bar kid (who looks about 12) asks me if I have any ID. And of course I didn't, so he wouldn't serve me. Bit frustrating, but I thought fair enough. Then my friend George couldn't get served because she only had her college ID card, and they wouldn't accept it (fuck knows why). And then to top it all off, my fiancée couldn't get served even when she showed them her driving license, because I was with her and she might have been buying alcohol for me. We protested, but one of the bar ladies just started being a complete bitch and told us to go somewhere else; we went to a different bar across the street, and had a really good time in the end. But the whole thing pissed me off quite a bit; sorry to moan about it guys, but surely that kind of shit just isn't right?
that sounds about right, im from portsmouth and everywhere asks for ID, they do have the right to refuse service if they wanna. the college ID thingy is because they can be faked and people know about it, i think personally its bollocks cause if you get a passport they can be faked as well. the other week me and my friend went out, i couldnt get in so the bouncer said if i get some photo ID i cant get in so i got a txi home and back which cost 15 quid then he said he wouldnt accept it cause it was fake. and i was like dude phone the piggys then as ask them to check it. its horrible but if they think you are underage they can refuse and refuse you mates. the joys of England
the best one i remember is when i was 22. i was in a bar and got ID'd so i gave them my drivers liscence, which is one of the old paper ones. he looked at it and said sorry, i cant accept this, it has to be a photo card. i tried explaining that i was far to old to have a photo card, but he was having none of it, so i was asked to leave. all the pubs in town have an out of one out of all policy so coz a few of us didnt have id that they liked, they radioed round our description and we didnt get in any pubs that night. twas most annoying, specially as i certainly looked 22 and nowhere near under 18. i think they were just being arsey for no good reason. peace and love stardust xxx
Nice to see a pub taking its legal responsibilities seriously... most pubs down here are out of bounds for me coz I'd bump into 14 year old students getting pissed... Fly...
Hmm-I-get-asked-for-ID-all-the-time...I'm-twenty*ahem*-and-definitely-dont-look-17. Get-ID....easy,-problem-solved Bars-get-heavy-fines-if-they-sell-beer-to-under-18's-so-i-understand-their-stand-point-entirely... even-though-it's-very-annoying
its not only the bars now its the people who serve underagers i think its something like a £300.00 one now it used to be £1000 but they have chabged it for some reason
yeh-actually-you're-right. I-certainly-wouldnt-risk-a-£300-fine-especially-when-the-averge-bar-worker-earns-about-a-fiver-an-hour
hmm i've never been id, once accually, in the co-op and i some how managed to get served even tho she asked me and i had no id
I got i.d'd in Tesco's because my ex-girlfriend said to a friend," i'm gonna piss myself if he doesnt get served now", as she knew i had no i.d, of course the cashier overhearing her, asked for i.d. i was 24!!! i asked Natalie to get it as she had her drivers licence but she wouldnt accept as she knew it was for me. The cashier looked like she'd just busted a gang of robbers, i told her she had made a mistake, she'd obviously overheard Nat...etc, she looked at me and said just get out of the store, My friend Nick laughed his little head off and she turned to him and said," i don't know what you're laughing at specky", he wears glasses obviously, "you can get lost as well," well i thought she'd over stepped her authority a bit there. I asked one of my friends to get the Manager, no way was i accepting her spectacle-ist ways. He took us to a special room. I think it was where they took shoplifters. We had an adult discussion about the unfounded abuse, i did completely understand that margeret had been off form and he understood our pleas, we just wanted booze. He offered us a £10 bottle of wine as compensation!!! My cheeky friend nick asked if instead we could have 2 £5 bottles, and he agreed!!! So its not always bad to get i.d'd.
