I've been smoking for a number of years but I just recently began trying to grow and so far its gone well. I have a few sprouts but I don't know how much water/fertalizer the plants need and I don't want to over water them. What is a good watering regiment for very young plants.
For young sprouts (less than 2 weeks old), the soil should be slightly moist (not wet) full-time. After 2 weeks it's time to add nutrients to your water. Use 1/3 strenth the first time, then 1/2 strength the next time. If your using chem. nutes don't exceed 3/4 strength at any time. Pot like to dry out between waterings. Stick your finger all the way into the soil, about 6" away from the plant. If your fingertip is wet, don't water. If it's moist, don't water. If it's dry and the plant shows no ill effects (like wilting), hold off another day. If your plants are in containers, lift them when they're dry, after awhile you can tell if they need water simply by lifting them.
Thank you thats just about everything I needed to know, but how often do you water after 2 weeks with water/fertilizer & what about fertalizer spikes. Are they ok to use?
i have found that when they are about 6~8wks old that if you let them go without water for about 5 days this will encourage the root ball to grow thicker & STRONGER.Do this 2 or 3 times with a 2wk gap between each drought. If you (over~water) the roots will become lazy & the root ball will not support a big healthy plant.Dont be afraid thes are hardy plants & can take a lot of punishment.
How often you need to water depends on a lot of factors, like: medium, temps and ambient humidity. Fertilizer spikes aren't for pot.
