So, I'm dying to know (no, I'm not dying... like my friends who were shipped to Iraq three years ago) how much longer do you guys feel that Bush can keep people interested in the war with Iraq... Iran... oh hell... all the "terrorists" who don't agree with his policies? I personally don't give it much longer because people are seeming to realize that you can easily point the "terrorist" blade both ways. I mean, isn't a terrorist really more of a broad term to describe anyone who uses terror to get their way? *all eyes turn towards Bush... I just read a newspaper from my old home town where one of my best friends in highschool described his experience in Iraq as a ground troop who was sent right into the thick of a few major cities, and consequentially almost found himself blown up by several rpg's and bookbag bombs. He used some technical term to describe the bombs, but I forgot what it was. He actually saw some action, had a friend of his splatter all over his uniform, and just when they told him his time was up and he could come home, he's being sent back for more tours in even more hostile areas. The kid is my age... 21... and he's already become a war-hardened veteran only because he couldn't afford to go to college, and the Air force offered him a scholarship and a job right after highschool. Hell, even I was tempted by the Marines for a little while there, but they told me my eyes and feet weren't good enough for a sniper... Another one of my friends did the same thing, but he was in the Navy, training to become a SEAL when his card was pulled and he got shipped out. He saw some similar action, flipped his lid, and now he's working for a shitty house painting crew in South Georgia because no one else will hire him. He never even fired his gun or anything like that... he just had a nervous breakdown because he never realized how real war can be until he found himself over there. These are kids, fucked over by the system, put in a position of servitude, and now they're getting fucked over all over again... and for what? So that I can watch as everyone around me "needs" a Sony PSP and a camera-cell phone? I'd rather know that my homies are alive and well in the world than have a cell phone, a computer, or any of the other corporate-produced bullshit that finds it's way into my life... So, I'm just wondering how much longer we think we can hold out with this bullshit, 'cause I still have plenty of other friends over there right now and I'm getting madder by the minute with hearing all of these depressing death tolls and horror stories from a nation I didn't give half a damn about 5 years ago... If Iraq sucks, and if Sadaam is being a prick... pack it up and move, damnit... there's a way out if you're determined. So how much longer will we wage war on freedom, in order to spread freedom throughout the world? Come on people... I wanna know what you think...
I can't explain how mad I am about this whole stuff!! I think that Bush is lying about the whole damn thing and making idiots out of Americans. The stupid war US is into doesn't have any sense. How can you beat terrorists?! Not attacking the whole fuckin country for nothing. If they wanted, the could send all Washington DC up in the air and nobody could do a thing so stop the stupid war and do something for real. Why do they have FBI, CIA and whatever else they have. My country was in a civil war in '91 and I know how it looks like. Not good, and later those boys and men have PTSP and all the other shits and their life is ruined. Don't want to offend anyone but I hate the stupid thing from all my heart and Bush especially!!!
On a a very somber note this map: http://www.palmbeachpost.com/news/content/news/photos/war_casualties/map/m10000.html shows the hometowns and names of soldiers who have died in the war in Iraq. They didn't get to come home to their families and loved ones.
As a Marine newly returned from Iraq.... I think its all a pile of shit. Think about it... we went to Iraq looking for nukes... then Korea admitted to having nukes, and we havnt done shit really to them... see a problem? When I serve in the military, it for sure as hell aint for my government... its for my country... and Bush can suck a fat one.

I am so sorry to hear about your friends and all the others that aren't coming home and the ones that came home in pieces (physical and mental), not to mention the tens of thousands Iraqis that are dead and injured. My heart really goes out to all the young kids that this farce has hurt, it just kills me when I see those young faces on TV. What the fuck did they really die for ? I get sad and then really pissed off at bush. I wouldn't loose any sleep if something happened to him. well maybe I would loose sleep, I'd be parting my ass off that a tyrant is finally out of the picture. again lostblackdog, I am really sorry about and for your friends. Just be there for them. peace out, bob
Rumsfeld said we could be in Iraq for the next 12 yrs. This basically means we're never leaving Iraq, and if we do, I don't believe it will be any less than 12 yrs. The people behind this war only stand to gain from it being prologned. They are making out big-time over this quagmire. Billions of dollars in no-bid contracts are being made, while the gullible taxpayers continue to shell their money out. The main questions is, how long will Americans put up with this shit before they wake up from their slumber and put their feet down. I don't expect it to happen anytime soon.
That's what I'm sayin' man! The path from 9-11, to Iraq, to the inaction towards North Korea... it just doesn't make sense! I like and respect your purpose for doing what you do. Thanks.
no country in our history has ever undergone a regime change to full democracy in under 20-30 years. if bush is this hard-headed about spreading "freedom" (through force--what an oxymoron....), then he (more likely future democrats) will be in it for at least another 25 years or so. free elections are one thing, but political and economic stability is another story. that's why in order to do a GOOD job, we'd be there for a couple more decades...
