Wanted: 2 or 3 partners to help start a communal tipi homestead in the awesome mountain wilderness of southern BC. No investment required. The tipi village would be off-grid, without phones, and have few modern conveniences but still be a comfortable, healthy and enjoyable lifestyle. The elevation here is approximately 3000 feet. We have warm summers with cool nights and mild winters with snow. We are about 6 miles from a major body of water (Kootenay Lake) which moderates the local climate. Frost free period is approximately mid-May to mid-September, often longer. This is a wilderness area but only 5 miles from a small town with all the necessities. Our mountain is semi-accessible by logging road in the summer. In winter it's under half an hour's walk from the highway. No limit on age or gender, but good health and vegetarianism is essential. No drugs please. Please send email as I am not on forums much: starchild_alien@yahoo.com
I think this would be an awesome idea...I love BC and up near Prince George there are some women who are creating community. This would be so cool...if you have more information I would be very interested in learning more. We are a homeschooling family, who has traveled and participated in community living. I am very flexible in discovering creative ways of earning income to sustain our community expenses. Love to hear more.
too bad about the no drugs. it seems a lot of comunes are strict about being veggie and no drugs/drinking... i love drugs and drinking. i'm not an out of control animal about it, but i would hate to be living in the freedom of nature, without being able to halucinate a little
I can understand why a "no drugs" rule is popular among some communes. If you're still in your teens or early twenties it might seem a little daft because the principle of many communes is to breakaway from mainstream society, there way of living, and there restrictions. On the other hand, to me getting toked up on something is a form of escapism... when you're in a commune you've kind of escaped anyway so do you really need it? I for one have felt a lot more satisfied when I have achieved a level of happiness without smoking shit or drinking loads to have a good time. This is not something I had ever felt before the whole drugs and drink thing, so it was great and I was really surprised! That said, getting spaced out once in a while doesn't hurt. If I had a commune, I'm not sure if I would have a drug/no-drugs rule. One problem for a more liberal drugs policy is that I wouldn't like to be level-headed when everybody else is high on something, and vice-versa. I guess if the commune was that good on it's own, it's members would find in time they didn't really need it - or perhaps not as much as usual!
For any community to publicly say that they have no problem with drugs - is asking your local or federal gestapo to be frequent visitors - it's the same with under 18 - Sometimes to make a community viable things are said, knowing that exceptions might be made, but that a public statement to that effect might be unwise.
yeah, i'd LOVe to do this, if it weren't for the no drugs policy... however, what old wolf says makes sense. you can't outright say, "oh yeah, getting stoned is totally cool. we even grow the shit..."
myself i could do without grass and its friends quite easily, but i would like to shoot a rabbit now and then or catch a fish for dinner. I should send you a pic of this winter hut i want to build, id like to get some feedback on its viability. I'll scan the drawing sometime and post it up here for everyone to check out.
