It is starting to piss me off the way that spyware on E-Bay slows my PC down to the point of choking. I suggest that all users of E-bay that are here bombard them with messages to their suggestion box asking them to rid the site of spyware. If they get bombarded with enough messages they might get so sick and tired of receiving such messages they might do something about it.
if by spyware, you mean cookies that let you know the items you've looked at previously... I've never had spyware pop up after using ebay. MSN/hotmail is way worse.
I use ebay a lot, but I have never had a problem with spyware from them. Something else is probably causing your problems.
There's plenty of scammers from Singapore on Ebay. I noticed they only target sellers of items over $100. They must have some sort of spy software that scans all the listings then sends emails to the sellers. It's always the same ploy: "I'm a broker and my client wants your item badly. I will arrange pickup and pay you with a company check. If you are truly interested in selling your item then respond to this email ASAP." .
I have norton and "hijack this" to check for any stuff that invades my computer. 100% success so far. I have no problem with E-Bay.
Those are good ones. There's one called startup monitor which has worked well for me. It warns you when any software is trying to sneak in behind your back. Basically it looks for changes in the system registry that take place when software tries to install itself. .
Don't bother. THey're not bad considering they're free but they miss a lot of things. Microsoft's got its own anti-spyware software available from the microsoft download centre - only works with windows of course but it's very good. As for Ebay, I've used it on occasion for both work and personal stuff. Not very often. But even if you haven't signed up for it you can get ebay-related ads popping up through other spyware. Presumably Ebay put money into other spyware companies to advertise for them.
I haven't tried the Microsoft stuff yet. I use Ebay quite often but haven't noticed any Ebay pop-up ads yet. I must be lucky. .
There's also software that will manage your proxy connections and cookies. It makes it easier to control compared with going into the browser optons and changing settings all the time. .
