I want to know what other people think about inhibitions. Are we born with them? Do you learn them from social rules controlling our actions? Why do people hold back doing something they want to do is it fear? What about when you think of something funny and you know the people your with wont make fun of you but you (well me) still hold back? I think if everyone started fighting against their inhibitions the world would be a much better/funnier place. Also I used to be really really shy and sort of still am, but ive noticed for anyone like me once you start going against your inhibitions its gets easier and easier. Inhibitions that weird forced inside your head thats holding you back from being free. So what do you think?
but even though sometimes consciously you know that your fear is pointless and has no merit? but you are still afraid to do it. Also what sort of things are good for over coming your inhibitions (dont mention drugs for this one)? thx
I think inhibitions are definitely more learned than pre programmed.. Mostly caused by fear, except not always, like you've said, some you know your fear is meritless but you do it anyway.. Maybe it's not fear so much of what others would think, but what you'd think? For me, the best way I've overcome inhibitions is actually by solitude, being by myself and just totally being myself to the point I realize who it is I actually am, and afterwards am much more comfortable in my newfound knowledge of myself. Or something like that anyway.
What if those inhibitions are to stop from hitting people, to stop yourself from committing suicide, from not driving while drinking.... some inhibitions are there for a reason.
And yet they say you can't be prosecuted for lack of common sense. Another mystery in my life laid to rest...
