I can't think of one that starts with a "c".

Here is a list of common ones I can think of, maybe it will help.

    Ambien (zolpidiem)
    Dalmane (flurazepam)
    Halcion (triazolam)
    Lunesta (eszopiclone)
    Nembutal (pentobarbital)
    ProSom (estazolam)
    Restoril (temazepam)
    Sonata (zaleplon)

Many other drugs are used for sleep, I only listed "sleeping pills"

Good one, Maggie! I didn't think of that. . .

Chloral hydrate in pill form was taken off the market for several years, because it was being used as a date rape drug. It was called a "Mickey". I think that it is back on the market in pill form, only now it is a softgel containing liquid. The drug company has to add a very strong, foul taste to the liquid so it would be noticed quickly in someones drink. . .

Anyway, back to the point. . .

    ;)

My older dd's both had to have CT scans, and they try to sedate small children so they don't freak out in the tube. They gave them Chloral in the hospital. Man the stuff smelled awful! Sunshine was only 2, and it only knocked her out for 45 minutes, but Moon was 8 and even after 4 doses she was awake. Very stoned, but awake. "I'm really tired......mama.........." She was trying to color and kept dropping the crayon. They stuff just wouldn't knock her out. I think they gave her a gram and a half, if I am correct.

It was one of Marilyn Monroe's favorites. It is one of the safest sleeping pills, but addictive and you build tolerance to it pretty quickly. The protaganist in "House of Mirth" killed herself with a bottle of Chloral Hydrate. Back in the early 20th century. Those Victorians knew how to party. lol.

Seroquel is an atypical antipsychotic. It can also be used to treat anxiety and mood disorders.

Yeah, what IS up with Seroquel? I went back to my doctor and he gave me the option for Ambien, but I thought at $3 a pill, that would be too much for my family to pay. I declined at first, but then my mom bitched me out for not going for it, so I called my doctor and requested it, and it only came out to be $25 for a bottle of 30, 10mg pills... I think that's because of my dad's co-pay benifit for being a Presbyterian minister tho...

Ambien was okay for a night or two last month, but to be honest... it never had the effect that everyone said it does when it came to me. I never really got tired at all, and I honestly tried my best to go to sleep every night except for the first night because I was curious as to how long it would take to really effect me. I had heard about all that trippy kinda shit from a friend of mine who also has a rather severe sleeping disorder. I told him I had a prescription coming that should finally solve my problem, and I'd let him know how it went, but he had already tried it and told me it was his favorite drug of all times. I kinda feel like he's a bit of a recreational pill popper, but I've seen him up at 4:30 am when I wake up and start studying or whatever... so I know his problem is actually legit. Either way though... ambien didn't really make me tired, nor did it keep me asleep for very long either. I'll admit that I had a glass of wine on a few of those nights, but it was only one glass, and I gave it time to digest before I took the pill. I was not really all that impressed...

Seroquel is something that my aunt gave me out of a lock-box that she keeps all her meds in, but she said it's similar to trazodone, but it wasn't nearly as harsh on her for her sleep. Trazodone was like a board to the head for me, so instead of passing out for 18 hours, she said Seroquel would probably give me a good 8 or 10 hours of sleep, and she guided me on how to take it, as well as giving me certain incriments to be taken in order to introduce the chemical at a proper rate. I honestly have never slept better than with Seroquel, and I never had any of the fucked up dreams or amnesia effects that ambien left me with. Xanax was the best sleep/anti-anxiety med I had taken before, and I wish I could find a way to tell my doctor that without him grilling me for taking it from my aunt, who is actually an RN, as well as a psychiatric nurse. Unfortunately she is rather unstable and cannot hold a steady job for longer than a few weeks, but she's been through the run-around, and she knows a ton about chemistry, psychiatry, and all that jazz. I'm sure that what she did was technically illegal, but if it helps somebody who is suffering... I dunno... I just have a hard time grasping the wrongdoing on her behalf... I digress...

Either way, Seroquel was a great alternative to ambien, and it helped to knock me out, and keep me out until it was time to wake up. No grogginess, no weird dreams or nightmares, and it worked exactly how my aunt said it would. I dunno if I would take it for anxiety, but it definitely had a sedating effect on me. I'd say give it a shot if you're not taking any other meds that would interact with it in a negative way, but start small, w/ like 25mgs.... That worked for me for a good while before I felt the need to try 50mgs.
