I am looking to make a special scarf for a fun project... Has anyone knitted with hemp? I have 20 lb, 40 lb and up, but was wondering since it softens when washed should I try to wash it first then knit, or knit then wash? Also, if I do this, what would you think for the ends...hemp fringe? no fringe? maybe wooden beaded fringe? Let me know please as this is for fun project, but just curious of others opinions! also, if it makes a difference..I use a garter stitch for knitting (I need to learn other ways, but I taught myself this based on watching a stranger knit years ago somewhere and bought yarn and needles and that was it....copied what i remembered! thanks!!!
i've done a bit of knitting and crocheting with hemp. it does soften up nicely after washing it a few times. i would probably use the 20lb hemp and large needles to make it look kind of lacey and think that beads on the end of the fringe would look great. if you don't put beads on the ends, chances are that the fringe will end up tangling. hope this helps.
thanks...I have worked with hemp a lot in jewlery and hair wraps over the past 15 years, but never considered knitting it before! Wheee, this shall be interesting!!!
i have crocheted with it but i cant knit...so ive never knit with it... ive made hemp hackey sac's from hemp twine...but i didnt prewash it and it was a biatch to work with...
i have tried to crochet, but have been unsuccessful so far...as far as knitting, I taught myself one stitch and never used a book or pattern, just wtached... I would have no clue how to read a pattern or anything!!! and the sig avatar, is that from the all good box set?
