Chet Helms passed away saturday june 25 in San Francisco surrounded by friends and family, age 62.Apparently it was a stroke complication. For those of you who don't know, was founder and manager of big brother and the holding company, and also Janis Joplin. He had a production company,Family Dog and stagedhuman "BE IN'S"at golden gate park ,summer of love 1967.
    Rest in peace Chet!
I personally was not around then, but in the late 70's I was fortunate enough to meet Chet at some friends house, and was lucky to work a gig doing security for a couple of his shows. It's kind of funny, our dog actually bit Chet, and at the time he was wearing a bracelet that protected him from much damage. The dog was an irish setter/St.Bernard,named Aruba....No harm was done, must be that "family dog " thing!I am surprised nobody had posted about this...Shameless,did you know Chet? You wer live there and in person back then, were'nt you?
What a party they must all be havin up there,Janis,Chet,Jerry,Jimi and the list goes on ...ripple,ripple....

Wow, just the thought. ya, what a party is nearly an understatement. So very sad to hear of the news though regarding Chet Helms. My regards to all that knew, loved, and respected him..

People who know something about Janis Joplin's life hate the part of her life that involved that idiot.

no disrespect, but why exactly do you say that?I guess I don't know much about her life,I didn't know her,but I knew Chet just a little:in passing mainly. He was the guy who hooked us up to be security at a couple of "Famlily Dog"shows and that was an experience I will never forget. He occasionally came over to the house and was always kind to me and my friends way back when....It sounds like you are bitter, and that's a drag.Seriously, enlighten me.Janis I am sure was an awesome soul, and a rare gem indeed. But what?RIP Chet.
