All it looks like to me is a bunch of Metrosexuals getting together and liking whiny music. At least all the EMO guys I see here in Portland look as if there was a red-tag sale at Ambercrombie and Bitch. Look, I know the idea of what makes music great is the fact that it can evoke an emotion--Hence the word EMO... BUT to capitalize on that one specific facet of emotion--the depressed, sensitive, "deep" feelings we have, and base your whole band's career on it sounds trite and hackenyed. Their sounds are trite and hackenyed. Selling depression for fifteen bucks to teenagers isn't trying to make music--Its just trying to sell albums... Every time the rock stations play Linkin Park, Evanesence(or however the hell you spell it), or those EMOs in disguise--Korn, (or dare I say it EMINEM?) it makes me wanna kick the speaker in. That lead singer Chester from LP better not be walking down the street alone, or I might just give him some more pain to sing about (sorry about the last paragraph--but JESUS!)
Emo is a ripoff of a typical middle-aged goth kid (cutting, manic depression, anti-social, metrosexual, black makeup and clothes, etc). Except they listen to more whiny music about kids who's fathers didn't love them enough, and instead of Hot Topic now they have Zumiez. Oh yeah, and they have their own little metrosexual festival called Warped Tour. Where if you get hurt in one of those mosh pits, they'll pick you back up on your feet and let you cry on their shoulder. and a whole lot of "omg!"
Evanescence isn't really emo. They're more of the mainstream popular alternative rock. They could also be gothic.
I don't think they are Emo because their lyrics are too good for it (their lyrics don't really try to evoke emotion the way "lifes not fair" would). They actually don't really consider themselves anything, the band members themselves are gothic though. Go look up their lyrics if you disagree.
evanescense is not an "emo" band. Thyere just regular alternative rock. Emo started in the very early 90's and it is called emo, because it was shortened up for emotional hardcore. Alot of hardcore bands from the late 80's like chain of strength, etc broke up, stopped being straightedge and started rock bands that had really cliche things like girls and clouds and all this crap fdor song ideas. This then stayed like that for awhile, and then bands like Jimmy eat world, the ataris and such started getting massive media attention and started selling records, now you have fall out boy, taking back sunday, finch, all this stuff would be considered emo.
Yeah I had always been wondering what "emo" was too, actually, and no one could give me a clear answer - well now I get it And I hate it...
im pretty sure weezer is responsible for influencing all the emo's to wear thoughs thick sort of glasses. but i dont know the whole history behind emo, nor do i care
Weezer ain't EMO, they are "college geek rock"...i dont mind them, they just use too much distortion for my tastes...
Weezer came before all of this dumb emo shit, if you thnk back about a decade you may remember back when they used to be good, Buddy Holly and Undone (The Sweater Song) were their biggest hits from their first and only really good CD, then their next CD was mixed with good songs and crap, and then they just turned to pure shit Yeah emo is a bunch of preppy fags liking horrible music together and trying to be cool
Evanesence isn't emo, and neither is Linkin Park. Bands like Taking Back Sunday, Alkaline Trio, Hellogoodbye, and Bright Eyes are emo. Calling someone gay just because they like emotional music is pathetic.
It's not calling them gay because they like emotional music, it's calling them gay because MTV execs get them up the ass. I like emotional music, I like Sinatra, Foo Fighters, Incubus, Velvet Underground, James Taylor, and the list goes on and on and on, but they like the gay ass music that MTV feeds them
There's tons of emo bands that MTV doesn't say jack shit about, I was just naming some of the main stream shit that I had figured people had heard of before. Texas Is The Coalition, Autumn Breaks The Dawn, Action Film Survivors, Don't Miss The Big, and alot more that I don't feel like naming are all good "underground" emo bands.
Yeah, Weezer would be good except for that I feel Rivers Cuomo/Brian Bell sound like they're using a busted Boss Metal Zone which sounds like shit.
Anyone who calls Linkin Park emo hasn't heard emo. I have heard it. It isn't just any terrible, whiny music, It is the most terrible form of whiny music. Be afraid, be very fucking afraid.
Emo is Nerd Punk. Its a look that's a mix between Goth and Blink 182, but with a fringe swept sideways and covering one eye. The music, judging by the looks of audiences Ive seen that look like that (if im describing the right thing) are like very bad punk bands, with singers that winge and have temper tantrums like 4 year olds. its mostly a lot of young kids dressing up and kissing and huging eachother, especially if they are of the same gender. iwas going to say sex, but they are probably too wussy to ever get laid.
no emotional rock is Guns N Roses and such, emo is just whiny preps that have no clue what it's like to live in a family that lives off under $100,000 a year
