Every time I check the airfare is ridiculously high from the States, even from the East coast where I live, I would think it would be better. So far, the best I can find on Expedia almost anytime of the year is $1600, by November it seems to lower to $650 from NY or NC to AMS. Is there an off-season that rates are cheaper ? And what is it like in the off-season in Dam.. If there is one.
it shouldn't be 1600 bucks right now anyway winter is low season, november usually isnt becuase of the cup being held at that time.
Low Season
2 Jan 2005 to 28 Feb 2005 1 Oct 2005 to 23 Dec 2005 Mid Season
1 Mar 2005 to 28 Apr 2005 2 May 2005 to 30 Jun 2005 High Season
1 Jul 2005 to 6 Sep 2005 16 Sep 2005 to 30 Sep 2005 Peak Times
Queensday: (29 Apr 2005 to 1 May 2005)
The IBC: (7 Sep 2005 to 15 Sep 2005) New Year: (24 Dec 2005 to 2 Jan 2006 05 feb. my plane ticket was 547.00 06 feb. cost me 714.00 with 10 months advance purchase even fuel prices got us again but atleast the dollar is making a comeback. was 1.38 now 1.21 as far as plane tickets try leaving on a wednesday an return on a wed or thursday "staying over the weekend is the key" but keep tryin diff dates you will see big diff in prices, early departures from dam seem to be cheaper too ie: 7:00 am
I can't believe how much you have to pay for flights from the states to Amsterdam. I know its a very, very long distance but the lowest being $650 still seems over the top !? I paid £30 ($53) return in April from England, now I know its not even quarter of the distance you have to travel but the prices you have to pay still seem an awful lot to me !? Are there no low budget 'no frills' airlines doing flights to Europe ?
I agree swasw1, I only pay about £40 myself from Bristol, when I read this thread I could not believe how much you Yanks have to pay, it seems very OTT. I suppose it depends what part from the States you come from.
I found cheap flights on Hotwire and cheap packages on Expedia. Under $961.00 for 7 days in a Hotel with breakfast during the Cup. It was near the Hieniken Brewery the Belfort Hotel. This is out of Atlanta only $891.00 out of NY, NY. Getting a package is much cheaper plus you save on breakfast.
book through travelocity...... NY to AMS Queensday 2005 $434 (booked only 6 weeks in advance) And when I went back in 1998 1999 2001 I payed $279-$350 for roundtrip in May.
well.. thats from the east coast, the furthest point east before the ocean starts... any further west, and it would be more.. more fule= more cost. MAybe it would be less to goto London, then AMS. Searching... want to go when its not too damn cold, but not peak season QUeens day either... that was too damn crowded.
I found one for 630 flying from Dulles International (outside D.C.) to AMS. USair, in pittsburgh, flies to amserdam directly for around 550.
Prices seemed to have dropped. 1 adult Total: USD 642.25 Flight: British Airways flight 228 on a Boeing 767 Jet Depart: Baltimore Wash, DC (BWI)- Mon, Oct 31 8:45pm Arrive: London Heathrow, UK (LHR) - Tue, Nov 01 9:05am Flight: British Airways flight 434 on a Airbus Jet Depart: London Heathrow, UK (LHR)- Tue, Nov 01 11:40am Arrive: Amsterdam, Netherlands (AMS) - Tue, Nov 01 1:55pm Flight: British Airways flight 423 on a Airbus 321 Jet Depart: Amsterdam, Netherlands (AMS)- Tue, Nov 15 7:30am Arrive: London Heathrow, UK (LHR) - Tue, Nov 15 7:50am Flight: British Airways flight 229 on a Boeing 767 Jet Depart: London Heathrow, UK (LHR)- Tue, Nov 15 11:50am Arrive: Baltimore Wash, DC (BWI) - Tue, Nov 15 3:30pm
FYI: In my previous post, that price was quoted as: "USD $394.00 + some taxes, additional fees". Those Taxes and Fees came to $248.25
why dont we all get together, and hire a private charter, like "Hooters Air" to fly us all to Amsterdam. Hooters girls to get us in the mood, then off to the RLD for a smashing time.... man oh man, the herb is expensive here in US.. $125 / quarter OZ for good stuff... better off growing my own.. but that takes so darn long...
are there any other airports in holland? there must be. are the rates that high to air ports in other areas? .... like rotterdam?
I dont know if its cheaper to go to Rotterdam, but i like the airport way better. You dont have to wait for anything, you just get on the plane.
